Small people say “don’t call us midgets”

In a serious case of grumpy dwarf a body representing small people has called on the FCC to ban the use of the word “midgets” on television.
The Little People of America group are upset over an episode of Celebrity Apprentice where a team created an ad called “Jesse James and the Midgets” where it was suggested that little people could be washed then hung out to dry.
According to The Huffington Post, the group believes the term “midget” is similar to calling black people by the N word.

This is ridiculous when is the word games going to stop what are is the best phrase
little people
dwarf
midget
vertically challenged
I mean come on when does a word dictate a persons true identity or worth unless that is what they truly thing and have accepted that words are the be all and end all in this life. I would like to believe and be able to use terms to describe something or someone based on facts not generalizations.

It will stop when folks stop making descriptive terms for groups with differences into insults.
Just so you know, *dwarf* and *little people* are both accepted by the LP community, with some individuals having preferences between them, but most being comfortable with either so long as you're not insulting someone. Almost universally we prefer to be referred to by our names, with limited attention to our differences (just as you'd prefer your acne, large nose, bust size, weight, or other least favorite physical feature not be the center of attention).
Vertically challenged has never been seriously used. That was a joke based on discussions of “political correctness” – which is an excuse to be impolite. Polite people call people by the names they identify themselves by. If I get married and my name is now Mary Jones instead of Mary Martin, I have the right to be offended if someone continues to call me Mary Martin. If I was MarySue in college but prefer to be Mary now that I'm a professional, that's my right as well. Yes, I'll accept a few mistakes, but it's not unreasonable to be called what I say my name is. It's the same thing with terms for ethnic and disability groups. Generally, by the way, most of these groups are simply asking that one term NOT be used, but others being reasonably acceptable options. This doesn't seem like much of a demand.

You have some great points that I along with my husband agree on. Our family is so mixed in cultures it is like we have one of everything on my side and he is ½ Greek and ½ Italian yet do not want to be known for that yet for knowing we are doing what ever it takes to be successful, helping out in our community, and being an example to the next generation. We both feel that you can’t be defined by a spoken word only by the actions you take and decisions you make. However, I do know that there is a bit of a need for “some” description for people in order to give each person the ability to describe a person in the event something goes wrong or good happens. He and I feel that when you consider it a form or racism, sexism, or discrimination just by the use of words you are using and showing true ignorance of the language; because most of the time the one giving the insult does not even know the true meaning the words they are speaking but just speaking out of example. We just all need to remember that old saying “sticks and stones my break my bones but your words will never hurt me”.

The only reason why they are making a sink is for money.
Where does it stop with the censorship? Pretty soon, saying just ANYTHING to anyone will be deemed as “offensive”. The people in this country have gotten so thin skinned it's sickening.
