Olsen Twins Quit Acting A Long Time Ago: The Real Reason Why They’re Not On ‘Fuller House’

One of the most highly anticipated new Netflix series, Fuller House, is set to make its debut on Friday, February 26. Most of the cast will be back except for the Olsen twins, who refused to take part in the reboot.

Now fans have the real reason why the Olsen twins decided not to be a part of Fuller House, thanks to the show’s executive producer Bob Boyett.

“Ashley said, ‘I have not been in front of a camera since I was 17, and I don’t feel comfortable acting.’ Mary-Kate said, it would have to be me because Ash doesn’t want to do it. But the timing is so bad for us.'”

Back in 2013, both of the twins revealed to Women’s Wear Daily that they had no plans to return to acting soon, so their recent statements don’t come as a shock to their committed fans.

“We still feel welcome in the industry,” Mary-Kate told the fashion magazine. “But it’s not the one we’re in.”

“I always looked at myself, even as a kid, as a businesswoman,” Ashley added.

“With what we were doing in business when we were younger, I don’t think it ever felt like we were actresses — because we spent so much of our time not in front of the camera, building a brand,” Mary-Kate concluded.

In their interview with Glamour, Ashley stated she simply didn’t have the time for acting, while Mary-Kate said she quit because she didn’t like having control over the final product.

The Olsen twins made it big when they played Michelle. But they have since moved on from the acting scene and made it big in the fashion industry. They have both received high praise and received CFDA Awards for their work in 2012, 2014, and 2015.

Now they have expanded their fashion empire with a new eyewear line available at Oliver Peoples Madison Avenue boutique. Styles in the line include a $340 pair of oversized tortoise shell sunglasses and a $440 pair that is a modern take on the classic translucent frames.

According to Cinema Blend, the Olsen twins have a legitimate reason for not being on Fuller House. It’s been over 10 years since the two have stepped in front of the cameras. Now that Mary-Kate and Ashley have remained a constant fixture in the fashion world, it makes sense as to why they wouldn’t feel comfortable acting again.

Another reason is probably because the Olsen twins have different memories of Full House since they were younger than the rest of the cast. The actresses were only 9-months-old when the show started, so most of their childhood memories were fuzzy. Dave Coulier told People that he empathizes with the Olsen twins.

“They’re family members. But I think they have a different perspective. When we get together and we reminisce, they were babies [at the time]. So they don’t share those same memories. I can’t really speak for them but I would understand why they don’t have the same sentiments that we all do.”

It’s also understandable that the Olsen twins couldn’t make their schedules work for Fuller House. Both of them work on their clothing lines, The Row and Elizabeth and James, in New York City, while the rest of the cast is filming the show on the Los Angeles set. They even worked Michelle Tanner’s role into the show, by saying that she’s busy with her fashion career in New York.

There was a lot of confusion about having the Olsen twins back on Fuller House. Rumors swirled ever since John Stamos first broke the news of the reboot, first saying that the twins weren’t contacted and then making remarks about them skipping the cast’s reunion. There were also talks about having their little sister Elizabeth Olsen taking on the role of Michelle instead.

John later clarified those confusing rumors during his latest interview with Howard Stern.

“I think there was some confusion. They said first I didn’t ask them. And I didn’t personally, but I was told they were asked. So I had a knee-jerk reaction and said, ‘Bulls**t, I did ask them.’ And they got upset, so I did call and talked to Mary-Kate and explained what the show is going to be and told them I’d love for them to be on there and they decided not to, which I respect.”

The Olsen twins are also busy in their personal lives. Mary-Kate just got married to her longtime boyfriend, Oliver Sarkozy, back in November, while Ashley has been dating director Bennett Miller.
