Dr. Luke’s People Accuse Kesha Of A Smear Campaign

Kesha has lost her case to leave Sony and her alleged abuser, Dr. Luke, the man who is being accused of sexually and emotionally abusing the singer for years. After the ruling broke, other pop stars and people in the industry have been standing with Kesha in light of the devastating blow.

Additionally, fans and other women of abuse have come forward to show solidarity to Kesha. Many victims of abuse don’t come forward, and outlets have written think pieces on the fact that Kesha did speak up, and still can’t escape her abuser and start a new chapter in her career. Many have analyzed in what way that speaks to how little the system does to defend women.

Now that Kesha’s name has trended and many in the industry have spoken out against working with Dr. Luke again, the producers lawyers are coming forward to accuse the singer of a smear campaign against Dr. Luke. According to TMZ, Dr. Luke’s lawyers have shot back at Kesha, and insist that they only have the best of intentions for the singer.

“On one hand, they want her to know she’s always been ‘free’… free to record with Luke or any other Sony producer. The lawyers also say they’ve invested $11 mil in her career and are ‘committed to continuing to promote her work.’

“On the other hand, the lawyers blast Kesha for engaging in ‘trial by Twitter,’ engaging in an unsupported ‘vicious smear campaign to ruin Luke’s reputation.’ “

This echoes statements made in court by Sony that Kesha could make any type of music she wanted with other producers. The problem is that Sony owns Dr. Luke’s production company, and it’s said that they turned a blind eye to Kesha’s abuse, which means it can be argued that they are just as responsible for the alleged abuse that occurred. With the court’s ruling, Kesha is still responsible for six more albums under Sony, instead of being released from the label like she hoped. When the ruling was read, Kesha broke down in tears.

In the past, Dr. Luke has worked with the likes of Katy Perry, Pink, and Kelly Clarkson, among other popular names. Clarkson has taken a stand against Dr. Luke, and Katy Perry hasn’t worked with Luke after the allegations swirled in 2014.

Popular acts such as Lady Gaga, Demi Lovato, and most recently Taylor Swift have made their own statements of solidarity with Kesha. After being called out by Demi Lovato for not standing up with Kesha and using feminism as a prop, especially in the light of the Dr. Luke drama, Taylor Swift’s people issued a statement that the pop singer would be donating $250,000 to Kesha’s legal fees.

“In a show of support, Taylor Swift has donated $250,000 to Kesha to help with any of her financial needs during this trying time.”

Kesha’s mother also tweeted about the help from Swift.

Singer Demi Lovato is still not impressed.

Nicki Minaj is the latest to offer her support by unfollowing Dr. Luke on Twitter. It’s silent support, but it definitely takes some sort of stand.
