Lamar Odom Is Doing Amazing After Drug Overdose, Full Recovery Expected In The Next Several Months

Lamar Odom is expected to be fully recovered from a drug overdose that nearly took his life in a matter of months. According to a February 9 report by TMZ, doctors never thought they would see the day when the former NBA star would be able to walk around unassisted.

In October of last year, a drug overdose at a legal brothel in Nevada led Lamar Odom to suffer 12 strokes, and lose the ability to walk or speak. At the time of his hospitalization, the prognosis on Lamar Odom’s possible recovery was extremely bleak, and according to Kris Jenner, he was practically dead when he arrived to the Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas. Then, after three days at the facility, Lamar Odom awoke from his coma, and was transferred to West Hollywood, California, based Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he remained for an additional three months.

Since leaving the hospital in January, Lamar Odom has made major strides in his recovery, and over the weekend, he enjoyed a hike through Los Angeles with Kim and Khloe Kardashian.

“The doctors never thought they would see the day. But even more surprising… Lamar’s cognitive functions have significantly returned… he’s able to process thoughts, speak them and carry on conversations,” TMZ reported. “Lamar had significant problems recognizing people — even family members — for several months after he was rushed to the hospital. But now his recall is back.”

Although Lamar Odom isn’t 100 percent quite yet, and said to still be “a bit slow,” his issues are “subtle,” and he’s expected to be living independently in the next several months. TMZ also noted that Lamar Odom is hoping to re-learn how to run, and said he feels he has a real shot at playing basketball again.

At the time of his hospitalization, Lamar Odom and Khloe were estranged, but despite her December, 2013, divorce filing, the couple remained in touch on and off, and when Lamar Odom overdosed, she was one of the first to arrive at the hospital.

In the coming months, Khloe is expected to re-file for divorce, but so far, she has yet to do so, which has prompted a number of reconciliation rumors. And adding the to rumors is the fact that Khloe recently arranged for Lamar Odom to live close to her in Los Angeles so that they could easily spend time together, as they’ve been doing for weeks. She’s also newly single after splitting from James Harden.

“When [Lamar Odom] isn’t in physical therapy he is with Khloe. They continue to be closer than ever. No one really knows what will happen with them in the future,” a source told E! News, adding that Lamar Odom “has a very positive attitude, Khloe is so proud of him. She encourages and motivates him everyday.”

Lamar Odom also spends tons of time with Khloe’s family, including Kourtney and her kids, as his physical therapy continues.

“Right now, they have [Lamar Odom] focusing on lower body strength exercises. He makes a little bit of progress everyday, but it’s still baby steps. He went from not being able to even stand on his own, to now, he is almost power-walking.”
