Fifty Shades of Grey, like Twilight before it, has snared legions of teeming fangirls — all enamored of the book’s hero, the wealthy bondage aficionado Christian Grey.
And Fifty Shades of Grey, like Twilight before it, has also built up a veritable industry based on its rabid fandom — the BDSM industry itself has experienced a major influx of newbies, sex toy sales are way up and most marital aid makers have introduced a Fifty Shades of Grey themed kit to induce curious novices to purchase more bondage-related items.
But Fifty Shades of Grey has joined Twilight in achieving a level of fandom not common, particularly for schmoopy romantic fiction — now fans of the books can travel to the Pacific Northwest to stay in a hotel suite inspired by the racy and controversial novel trilogy, dragging husbands and boyfriends along to experience the full FSoG experience — BDSM supplies not included, of course.
It’s not just one area hotel capitalizing on the success of Fifty Shades of Grey, however — CNN reports a few are cashing in, such as the Hotel Max in Seattle, and that joint boasts:
“Live out your fantasies with a two-night getaway in an Artist King room on the romantic 8th floor. During your stay, enjoy chauffeured town car service, a helicopter tour of the city and a private four-hour skippered sailing excursion on Puget Sound with gourmet picnic and a bottle of Bollinger Grande Année Rosé 1999 Champagne, a favorite of Mr. Grey himself.”
