J.K. Rowling Confirms Ilvermorny Exists – A North American School For Witchcraft And Wizardry

Fans around the world have been clamoring and begging for new Harry Potter books from J.K. Rowling, but it certainly does appear as if she is done with that series. Could she possibly come up with a new series though? Well, hints have been dropped and rumors have spread, but there are other things to talk about and that’s the North American school for witchcraft and wizardry. Now, Rowling has revealed the location and the name of it, and it is called Ilvermorny.

The Harry Potter film spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them won’t be hitting theaters until November 18, 2016, so there is still a lot of time until more wizarding comes forth on the big screen. For now though, Pottermore has given information on the North American school of witchcraft and wizardry that everyone has wondered so much about.

The “Celebration of Harry Potter” is currently taking place at the Universal Orlando Resort, and a number of big names are there for it. One of them is actress Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood) and she revealed that J.K. Rowling does indeed have new writing on Ilvermorny, the North American school, and others as well.

Actually, the names and locations of numerous other witchcraft and wizardry schools around the world have been revealed.

• Ilvermorny in North America
• Castelbruxo in Brazil
• Uagadou in Africa
• Mahoutokoro in Japan

J.K. Rowling has even said that more schools will be coming and their locations will be revealed at a later date.

The exact locations of these new schools hasn’t yet been revealed as the maps show them sitting on a wide span of land. People has pointed out something rather intriguing about Ilvermorny though since it is located in the Northeast United States. Could it be near where the Salem Witch Trials were held so long ago?

A lot of information has been given about Castelbruxo, Uagadou, and Mahoutokoro, but J.K. Rowling has not revealed a whole lot about Ilvermorny. Hopefully, there will be more details coming soon, but for now, the anticipation is killing a lot of people.

If you’re looking to see where you would belong at Hogwarts School, then you can head over to Pottermore and take your turn with the Sorting Hat. Take your turn in seeing if you belong in Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, or Hufflepuff.

Rumors have flown around about what exactly Ilvermorny was going to be since Warner Bros. filed the trademark for the name in 2015, as reported by Potterish. Fans are now hoping that their acceptance letters will be coming from this school or any of the other three new locations around the world.

Cinema Blend has done a bit more plotting and searching on where Ilvermorny may actually exist, and it does appear as if the swirling mist is over the Great Lakes.

Lake Superior appears to be poking out a little bit on the left while a portion of Lake Michigan is peeking out at the bottom. With the Great Lakes being behind the swirl, but distances have been condensed on this map and state boundaries aren’t shown so it kind of makes it tough to judge.

On the eastern side of Ilvermorny, both Nova Scotia and New Brunswick can be seen, while to the north is the St. Lawrence River. In this example, it doesn’t seem as if it’s as close to Salem, but more so near Montreal.

It’s hard to tell right now where Ilvermorny exactly is, but it is definite that the new witchcraft and wizardry school is in North America. J.K. Rowling and Pottermore are going to release more information in the future, but Harry Potter fans are getting excited because there are so many intriguing and magical things coming.
