‘The Vampire Diaries’ Paul Wesley And ‘Originals’ Star Joseph Morgan Reunite In First Footage From The Crossover

Exciting new video footage provided fans with a first look at the upcoming crossover episode between The Vampire Diaries and The Originals. While there are plenty of moments to tease from the short clip, the brief interaction between Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Klaus (Joseph Morgan) was definitely the highlight.

In the video, which was released on the show’s official Twitter page, Stefan and Klaus are seen sitting together in a bar. Klaus greets Stefan by sliding him a shot and saying, “Welcome to New Orleans, old friend.”

According to E! Online, the two-part crossover event will occur entirely in New Orleans. In addition to all of the violence and exciting crossover moments promised in the trailer, what else can fans expect to go down in the episodes?

For his part, Stefan has gone to New Orleans in order to seek a cure for his problem with magic. Although the vampire fails to find anything of use at St. James’ Infirmary, he does meet up with his “old friend” in Klaus. However, Stefan’s stay is prolonged after their meeting leads to Klaus asking for a little bit of help with a problem of this own.

That being said, the upcoming crossover event may be the final one of its kind between the two shows. As executive producer Julie Plec recently explained, The Vampire Diaries’ storyline is approaching its three-year flash forward, which almost puts it in a different timeline than The Originals.

At the same time, Plec also told TV Line that the idea for a crossover originated with Stefan’s storyline during this season of The Vampire Diaries. Specifically, Stefan’s desire to get away from magic helped to create a story where the two shows could merge.

“The crossover was born out Stefan needing a place to escape,” she stated in the interview. “He’s on the run. He needs to go somewhere where magic can’t find him, and we realized he can go to New Orleans where there’s that bar where magic doesn’t work.”

Apart from exchanging stories over a few drinks, Plec also explained how Stefan and Klaus’ conversation would be a meaningful and thoughtful talk about love. Given both of their histories and all of the sacrifices they have had to make, this should be an interesting discussion.

“They actually have a surprisingly civil and honest conversation about love — what it means and the sacrifices that you have to make in the name of it,” Plec revealed.

Meanwhile, International Business Times is reporting that one of the storyline’s from The Originals will be a major focal point in the crossover episodes. In particular, Plec discussed how Stefan will be involved with the sire line and the trinity war.

“We realized we have the perfect storyline already happening: the sire line and the war [between] all the trinity, and the prophecy saying that one of these Originals will die or all of them will fall,” Plec shared. “The fear of that impacts Stefan directly, and so he sticks around for an Originals episode to participate in the latest dilemma to come out of that situation.”

Beyond Plec’s comments, it is hard to tell what will go down in the upcoming crossover episodes and how the events that take place will impact the main plots in The Vampire Diaries and The Originals. Whatever ends up happening, fans are definitely in for an epic set of episodes as these two worlds finally collide.

Both The Originals and The Vampire Diaries are set to return from their mid-season hiatus on January 29 on The CW. The exact release date of the crossover episode, however, has not been released.
