‘Tom Clancy: The Division’ — Ubisoft Reveals Virus Storyline, ‘3 Pillars’ Include RPG, Open-World, And Online Games

The secret is out for Tom Clancy: The Division, and Ubisoft revealed more about the action-RPG’s plot, reports Express UK. According to the developer, the virus was delivered monetarily. For all the snow that’s seen as part of the environment, and the fact that the time period takes place around the Black Friday/Christmas season, it would make sense that the incident would occur during the busiest time of year when people’s grubby little hands are at their worst.

An explanation of this open-world game comes from associate creative director Julian Gerighty, who states how there are “three story threads based around the virus itself.” The Division action-RPG game comes with factions that attempt to battle it out among themselves, in addition to the mission of restoring civilization and making New York City whole again.

“Every mission that you do is going to be linked to one of those story threads and is going to give you a little piece of the puzzle.”

The Division online RPG game includes a lot of complicated parts and is a game of figuring things out. According to Gerighty, each mission accomplished gives an agent the ability to put it all together along with an additional piece of the puzzle, allowing for a different perspective.

According to Ubisoft’s Creative Director Magnus Jansen, who revealed the multi-player matchmaking system via the Inquisitr, the core of the game’s format is divided into “pillars.”

“We have these three pillars – online, open-world, and RPG.”

Magnus also cites that during The Division, “thinking is rewarded,” and it appears that the agent’s choice of weaponry, placement in the field, ability to work as a team, and other maneuvers also play a factor. If anyone recalls previous team-based online shooters, the reward was mostly that of obtaining the objective and winning the game.

In multi-player shooters like the Battlefield series, you gained points and rank that rewarded you with advanced weapons, but it was quite linear in nature. Eventually high ranking/experienced players wound up having the same thing.

The Division’s open-world is rather dynamic, and there are consequences to your actions and choices that influence the outcome. It also seems to have the tactical feel that most Ubisoft Tom Clancy games possess.

Ubisoft’s action-RPG game, according to Jansen and Express UK, gives players the ability to influence the world via their activity. When your team comes into an area, it’s desolate, forgotten, and grim. It’s a dead zone, or “Dark Zone,” to put the brand to it.

The Division’s team of agents can even commandeer a “base of operations” in the open-world, as shown in one of the video demos. It showed how a team would need to take out opposing forces to take over the building to begin the restructuring of society, which can allow for a realistic online game experience.

Jansen also added there’s an emotional aspect to this action RPG.

“But you also have this emotional aspect to it: It starts out dirty, unlit, nobody is there. People are sick, unhappy, and then when you do a mission, the lights come on; it’s cleaned up, and life comes back. And all of that is yours – a physical representation of you taking back New York.”

With that said, it tends to lend an almost near real-life appreciation for what you do when it comes to the rebuilding of society. The Tom Clancy game tells a story, and it unfolds with you and your teams.

Ubisoft’s The Division is available on March 8 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and the PC. Right now, according to VG24/7, it’s available for pre-download. This is indeed an online action-RPG open-world game to look forward to as it covers multiple formats.
