Toni Braxton Biopic Causes Twitter To Explode As She Reveals What She Learned While Creating The Film

On Saturday, Jan. 23, Toni Braxton dominated televisions all across the United States with the premiere of her biopic movie event titled, Toni Braxton: Unbreak My Heart. But, shortly after the film, fans wasted no time taking to social media with their reactions to the film. According to Global Grind, the vast majority of fans were quite pleased with the “Secrets” singer’s depiction of her life. But, of course, the hilarious tweets were also a highlight of the night. Since the Lifetime network has garnered a reputation for seemingly out-of-touch biopics, many fans watched with a critical eye, but Toni Braxton’s biopic has been praised, and the comical tweets are a reflection of fans’ commendable reactions. Even her sister, Tamar Braxton, joined in on the comedic banter.

The film, which highlighted a number of aspects about the seven-time Grammy award-winning singer’s career, also shed light on many personal aspects of life fans may not have been aware of. Many fans were probably well aware of Toni Braxton’s financial pitfalls over the course of her career.

For those who still don’t know, Toni filed bankruptcy not once but twice. The first time around, her bankruptcy was due to a faulty record deal that ultimately led to no financial return on the millions of records she’d sold. In addition to the lack of return on record sales, Toni Braxton also funded her world tour out-of-pocket. Although she saw the move as a sound investment to further her career, since she was selling out arenas around the world each night, the decision ultimately left her financially upside down.

Both bankruptcies forced Toni Braxton to auction all of her belongings and prized possessions, not once but twice. Back in 1998, Toni discussed her financial downfall during a memorable interview on The Oprah Winfrey Show. Shortly after, the “Unbreak My Heart” singer went on a hiatus. And the hiatus is where many fans got to see a more in-depth look at her life. The biopic revealed her second bankruptcy was actually the result of her illness.

Although many fans have expressed how enlightening the film was, Toni Braxton also revealed she’s learned a thing or two about her own life since filming the biopic. During an interview on ABC News, Toni revealed what the film has taught her about her career. Since her path to success was such a rough and rugged road, she doubts she’d travel down the same path if she could do it all over again.

“I wouldn’t do anything over again,” she told ABC News of her career. “I really wouldn’t because of how I got to where I am today.”

Toni Braxton also shared her reaction to watching the film and seeing a glimpse of her marriage from the outside looking in. “When I looked at the part of my marriage, I saw that I was hurting so I lashed out at [Keri] and I didn’t think about the things I did to hurt someone else,” she explained. “I saw that and I went, ‘Oh my God.'”

Toni Braxton also revealed how Lupus altered the course of her marriage and family life. “[My Lupus diagnosis] was the moment that kind of changed our relationship. I was afraid and scared and worried about my mortality. I think about my children, but it was really a tough moment for me and it was, unfortunately, the demise of my marriage.”

But, ultimately, the biopic highlighted one attribute about her that she hadn’t even noticed – her strength. Despite the pitfalls of her career, the financial woes, the responsibility of helping her family, marriage, her sickness and her son Diezel’s autism, Toni has still managed to move forward and conquer the obstacles in her way. “I learned some things about myself,” she continued. “I was stronger than I thought I was….I’m pretty proud of myself. I can’t deny it.”
