Stacey Dash Responds To Oscars Backlash With Blog Post, ‘How BET Lies To Black People’

Stacey Dash isn’t backing down after making some pretty inflammatory comments about race in America and the drama surrounding the Oscars protest for continuing to snub black actors. The Clueless star turned Fox News personality continues to be the voice of dissent among her peers. To further drive her point home, Dash published a blog post titled How BET Lies To Black People.

Stacey’s position on the Oscars has upset a lot of people and even garnered a response from BET themselves. The black television network was quick to point out that Stacey Dash had no problem taking a role in one of their hit television series prior to taking a position with the Fox network.

In a picture from The Game, possibly one of the BET network’s most popular shows, Stacey Dash can be seen sitting at a dinner table with other actors in the scene. BET captioned the photo on Instagram, “Soooooo @realstaceyldash, can we get our check back… or nah? #Remember #YouWereOnTheGame #AndWeDontMeanTheRapper.” BET isn’t the only entity that remembers some of the black movies that Dash was a part of during her rise to the top if that’s what you want to call it.

Stacey shot back at BET in her blog post and even accused the station of never having a hit. “Thank you for reminding me, since most people have never heard of that show,” Dash blasted. “Why? It’s on BET.” So what about the people who have not only heard of the show but also watched it? Those are the people who tend to also be offended by Stacey’s remarks while sitting on that Fox News stage, talking about doing away with the BET network and Black History Month.

During her Wednesday appearance on Fox & Friends, Stacey Dash had a lot to say about the #OscarsSoWhite controversy and the boycott that came with it. “We have to make up our minds, either we want to have segregation or integration,” Dash said. “If we don’t want segregation then we need to get rid of channels like BET and the BET Awards and the Image Awards, where you are only awarded if you are black. If it were the other way around, we would be up in arms, it’s a double standard.”

“BET lies to American black people by telling them that the rest of America is racist,” Stacey wrote in her blog post. “So stick close to your own kind.” What Dash seems to have left out, or maybe she doesn’t know because she has been far removed from black culture for so long, is that BET does acknowledge and award those from other races for their work. As a matter of fact, in recent years, there have been more white performers nominated at the BET Awards than black performers nominated for Oscars. As far as the winners, well you can’t win something that you weren’t even nominated for in the first place.

The biggest problem with Stacey Dash and her very controversial opinion is that the black-centric cable channel and Black History Month itself were created to finally give a voice to the minority, who were very underrepresented by the mainstream. Jada Pinkett Smith, Spike Lee and many others have been speaking out about the Oscars continuing to ignore some brilliant performances by black actors (and other minorities to be fair.)

The lack of diversity at the Oscars has been a theme year after year and in 2016, many entertainers have finally had enough and are speaking out about the obvious snub. Will doing away with those institutions meant to give a voice to those who are constantly passed over do anything to help America end this obvious segregation? Not having the BET Awards or the Image Awards isn’t going to help America become less segregated and it certainly isn’t going to be helpful in getting recognition for some amazing performances that should have been acknowledged regardless of the race of the actor. So what is Stacey Dash really saying when she claims to be “an independent-thinking black woman” who, rather than admitting we still have a problem in America, “dares to call their bluff?” Who is really lying here, Stacey Dash or BET?
