‘Affluenza Teen’ Ethan Couch Alleges That He Was Taken To Mexico Against His Will

There is a new twist in the case of “affluenza teen” Ethan Couch, and it poses quite a few questions about whether or not Ethan Couch’s flight from the law was instigated by his mother, Tonya Couch, or if they idea to blame the indulgent mother is just another piece of the odd puzzle that is the affluenza family, who believe that the rules don’t apply to them. Ethan Couch, who is still in a Guadalajara prison, is now claiming that he didn’t want to leave Texas, but his mother made him.

According to The Inquisitr, after a violation of probation hearing was scheduled for Ethan Couch, Couch and his mother Tonya took out some cash, packed up the truck, and left Texas for Mexico. Ethan Couch was caught on tape playing beer pong, which is in violation of his probation, and was facing time in jail.

The New York Post is reporting that Ethan Couch says that he was taken from Texas against his will, and driven to Mexico. Scott Brown, Couch’s current attorney, said that authorities are investigating whether Ethan Couch fled for Texas voluntarily.

A hearing today ended soon after it started when an attorney for Ethan Couch said that his parents were not properly informed of the hearing details. If Ethan Couch’s case is moved to adult court, there will be no need to notify parents in the future.

CBS Dallas Fort Worth says that paperwork issues canceled today’s hearing. Tarrant County District Attorney says that Fred Couch’s lawyer said that they were not given enough notice of the hearing, even though it was reported in the press as early as last week.

“Ethan’s attorneys had argued the hearing shouldn’t be taking place, since their teenage client could not be present for it. Ethan remains in a holding facility in Mexico. He fled to the country with his mother, Tonya, in late November after a video surfaced showing what appeared to be him at a party where people were drinking alcohol. An arrest warrant was issued for the teen after his probation officer couldn’t locate or make contact with him.”

Couch attorney Scott Brown said that Ethan Couch’s rights are the most important thing right now.

“Our objectives, as always, are to make sure that our clients rights are protected — wherever they are. So, that’s why the family has contacted the Mexican attorney, certainly with our consent. It’s a good idea. If your loved one was caught in Mexico, was arrested in Mexico, detained in Mexico, it would be a good idea to make sure their rights were protected.”

Representatives from MADD report that a petition shows that most people believe that Ethan Couch needs to be punished.

“I think the petition just shows the public sentiment on the fact of what happened is unacceptable and he needs to be held accountable,” he said. “It won’t be presented to the judge. It is inadmissible, but what it is it’s a collection of the public sentiment regarding this case.”

Alex Molina, brother of Sergio Molina, who was paralyzed in the drunk driving crash insists that he will continue to fight to see that Couch faces what he has done.

“I’m not a judge. I’m not a lawyer. I’m a victim,” he said. “I’m just here applying pressure… you see it’s being unraveled. You’ve see what’s going on. I can’t do anything. It’s out of my hands.”

MADD wants to use this case to show that most people believe that drunk divers need to go to prison.

“This is a very high-profile case. We’ve had a lot of victims that have reached out to us who’ve had similar situations — where they’ve lost loved ones and their offenders received a slap on the wrist.”

Do you think there is any reason to believe that Ethan Couch’s mommy made him go to Mexico, or is she just falling on her sword to protect him again?
