Hilarious Footage Of Washing Machine Bouncing On Trampoline Suddenly Goes Viral [Video]

Washing machines can shake pretty violently when unbalanced, but newly resurfaced footage uploaded to YouTube in 2015 shows exactly how out of control a washing machine can get in the right circumstances. The footage depicts a washing machine that has been placed on a trampoline and turned on, which, strangely enough, appears to exist as some kind of moderately popular sub-genre on YouTube. The result is both mesmerizing and hilarious, although the video languished in obscurity for almost a year before suddenly shooting to viral popularity.

In one of many instances of what is referred to as “washing machine carnage,” YouTube user Bootsowen created a situation that many of us would probably have gone our entire lives without witnessing without the benefit of the Internet. The recipe is simple: a washing machine, a trampoline, an extension cord, and some bricks. For those playing along at home, it’s worth noting that neither the washing machine, nor the trampoline, are likely to survive this experiment, and that absolutely nobody should actually try to recreate it at home in the first place.

Even assuming a readily available washing machine and trampoline that nobody cares about anymore, a cursory viewing of Bootsowen’s footage makes it extremely clear how dangerous it is to put a washing machine on a trampoline and turn it on.

With a brick, or bricks, placed inside the washing machine, and the washing machine placed on the trampoline, the unit is turned on. The washing machine then begins to shake erratically, due to the heavily unbalanced load, which causes it to begin bouncing up and down on the trampoline. Although it might seem improbable, the washing machine actually manages to stay on the trampoline for an impressive amount of time before it finally flies off and dashes itself to pieces on the ground.

The video was originally uploaded to YouTube on May 25, 2015, languished in relative obscurity for about eight months before something clicked, and it suddenly went viral. YouTube’s video statistics show a veritable flat line between May and mid January 2016, when the views suddenly shot up. According to The Daily Mail, the crazy washing machine trampoline video had racked up more than half a million views by the morning of January 18, 2016. Less than 12 hours later, the video has nearly 900,000 views, and continues to blow up.

It isn’t clear why the video suddenly surfaced after so many months, but its sudden popularity has shone a light on a weird part of YouTube, where users gather to share their videos of creative ways to destroy washing machines. And in a somewhat surprising turn of events, this isn’t even the first time someone put a washing machine on a trampoline and uploaded the ensuing chaos to YouTube.

Footage of a washing machine on a trampoline even made it into a Bosch Home India spot on YouTube.

Although the sudden viral success of YouTuber Bootsowen’s washing machine bouncing on a trampoline video is far and away the most popular video on the channel, there are a number of other gems, including one where someone had the genius idea to disassemble a washing machine, build a fire in the basket, and then turn it on.

About a minute into this particular video, the washing machine is turned off and someone in the background notes that it is, “spewing out bits of metal.” Obviously, the correct course of action at that time is to put more combustible material in the basket and turn it back on, because of course it is.

It should go without saying that, like the washing machine bouncing on a trampoline video, this is another one that probably shouldn’t be recreated at home. Although a fire in a disassembled washing machine makes for an interesting spectacle, it doesn’t seem terribly safe.
