Leonardo DiCaprio Explains His Reaction To Lady Gaga At The Golden Globes

If there was anything memorable about the Golden Globes last night, it was Leonardo DiCaprio. And that wasn’t just for his win for Best Actor in a Drama for The Revenant, but for his reaction to Lady Gaga walking past him while picking up her win for Best Actress in a Limited Series or TV Movie.

As Gaga went on to collect her award of the night, the performer-turned-actress looked extremely bewildered by the moment. While in a complete daze, she wound up bumping into DiCaprio’s elbow, and that’s when the gold moment happened that has everyone talking.

In the clip, DiCaprio, who was busy laughing at what we don’t know, was startled when Lady Gaga bumped into his shoulder. As the performer, who was in tears continued with her walk, completely unaware of her misstep, DiCaprio gave her the once over while looking extremely shocked and mildly disturbed. The moment went viral before the night was over, which meant when Leonardo DiCaprio went into the press room, it was one of the first things reporters asked about.

When Entertainment Tonight informed DiCaprio that his reaction was trending, the actor said, “Oh Lord. That’s trending, huh?”

The Revenant star and Golden Globe winner went on to explain, somewhat. “I just didn’t know what was passing me, that’s all. I was like, oh! I just didn’t know what was passing me.” What, not whom was passing, but “what.” Zing!

In case you missed it here’s that moment everyone is talking about as well as a few reactions:

That wasn’t the only highlight of the night. One of the highlights was early on during the night, when Jonah Hill dressed up as the bear in The Revenant. The scene of DiCaprio getting mauled by the bear came with unexpected press early on before the film’s release. Reports were released that in the film DiCaprio gets raped by the bear, and at the time it seemed like everyone involved with the film scrambled to debunk that crazy rumor.

A spokesperson said the following to Entertainment Tonight.

“As anyone who has seen the movie can attest, the bear in the film is a female who attacks Hugh Glass [DiCaprio’s character] because she feels he might be threatening her cubs. There is clearly no rape scene with a bear.”

Now, though, the press surrounding the bear seems to be fair game to joke about. While in the bear costume, Hill said, “I’m a two-year-old bear from the Sierra Mountains, you know. You took a chance on me and honestly, I don’t forget it! You gave it to the lead actor and the supporting actor is just sitting there in the background.”

All jokes aside, it turned out to be a special night for Leonardo DiCaprio as he took home the award for Best Actor in a Drama for The Revenant. During his speech, he highlighted the lives of the indigenous people. “It is time that we recognize your history, and that we protect your indigenous lands from corporate interests and people that [are] out there to exploit them. It is time that we heard your voice and protected this planet for future generations.”
