‘Affluenza Teen’ Mom Tonya Couch Waives Extradition To Texas

Though the press keeps joking that “affluenza teen” mom Tonya Couch went to Mexico in disguise as Carrot Top, on a serious note, Couch is not fighting extradition from California back to her home in Texas, where they are eager to get their hands on her and her errant son, Ethan Couch, who killed four people while driving drunk and on drugs in Tarrant County Texas.

According to the Inquisitr, Tonya Couch tried to fight deportation from Mexico, but the paperwork didn’t come in time, and U.S. Marshals came and took her into custody. Her son, Ethan Couch, is still in a Guadalajara prison, awaiting his fate. Ethan and Tonya Couch went on the run around December 16 and ducked out on a probation hearing called after a tape surfaced with Ethan Couch playing beer pong in violation of his probationary terms to not drink or use drugs.

CBS News is reporting that this time, Tonya Couch waived extradition from Los Angeles, and is returning to Texas. Tony Couch said she wants to return to Texas as soon as possible to have her day in court, as she insists that she has done nothing wrong. Couch is to be charged for aiding and abetting a felon. Perhaps like her son, she believes that money will get her probation.

CBS just broke the news that Tonya Couch is due in a Texas court on Tuesday. Her attorney says that she is eager to have her statement in court.

“She looks forward to being returned to Texas as quickly as possible,” Stephanie Patten, Couch’s lawyer, said in a statement on December 31. “While the public may not like what she did, may not agree with what she did, or may have strong feelings against what she did, make no mistake — Tonya did not violate any law of the State of Texas and she is eager to have her day in court.”

It seems possible that in lieu of getting their hands on Ethan Couch, the state of Texas will be happy to jail Tonya Couch, as the affluenza excuse put the spotlight on her terrible parenting.

Down in Texas, Ethan Couch is being represented by hotshot lawyer Fernando Benitez, who is questioning the legality of the United States seeking the return of Couch to Texas.

“It would be a tough sell for the U.S. to tell Mexico, ‘you know what, this man was tried as a juvenile, pled guilty, was handed down his sentence and now five years later we don’t think the sentence is fair and we want to retry him as an adult,’ ” Benítez said. “Mexico is never going to go along with that.”

Tarrant County Executive Administrator Terry Grisham says it is difficult to know what will happen next.

“This game is not over, and it’s sort of like trying to assess your game at half time,” Grisham said. “What will happen on his birthday if he runs out the clock? We’ll just have to wait and see. We came on really strong at the end of the first half, but we have a long way to go.”

Oddly, if Ethan Couch claims he did nothing wrong, it’s hard to imagine why a Mexican prison would be preferable to a Texas jail, but Dee Anderson, the sheriff of Tarrant County, is taking a wait-and-see attitude.

Tonya Couch is currently being held on a million dollars bail, which she can post in Texas.

Do you think Tonya Couch did nothing wrong in fleeing the country with her son?
