Taylor Swift Crowned Biggest Star Of 2015

Taylor Swift is the biggest star of 2015, according to Good Morning America viewers. ABC reports that the popular singer was unanimously voted as the best, with Adele coming in a close second place.

The contest was held between Tracy Morgan, Caitlyn Jenner, Taylor Swift, and Adele.

“Last year was huge for Taylor Swift, as she officially transitioned from country music to pop with the release of her multi-platinum album, 1989,” writes Caterina Andreano. “Somehow, however, 2015 proved to be even more exciting.”

Taylor Swift is only 26-years-old, and when she opened up her new 1989 tour this May, it was clear she was poised for another incredible year. The tour opened in Tokyo, and she continuously brought on high-profile stars like Justin Timberlake, Julia Roberts, and The U.S. Women’s World Cup soccer team to entertain fans. In fact, her tour is largely why she’s considered the year’s biggest star. The Wrap reports the singer had 85 shows and grossed over $250 million.

Andreano continues, “Rounding out the year, Swift picked up six Grammy nominations and then treated her 1989 world tour crew to a relaxing Australian vacation. Not too shabby. It’s no wonder 62 percent of you thought that 2015 was the year of Taylor Swift.”

After Taylor Swift comes Adele. November and December has been the time for Christmas gifts, colder weather, and, of course, listening to Adele’s “Hello.” She did come in second place, but the fact that she did so after only being in the spotlight for about two months is extraordinary. After her single dropped, the album soon followed.

25 has sold more than seven million copies and is the first album ever to sell one million copies in two consecutive weeks.” writes Andreano. “When tickets to her 2016 world tour went on sale on Dec. 17, fans were outraged when they sold out in minutes. So, who knows? If this was the year of Taylor Swift, will Adele be her successor?”

Caitlyn Jenner came in third place behind Swift and Adele, with just five percent of the vote. Despite a small turnout in voting, Caitlyn has had as big a year as any, winning the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage at the ESPYs.

“This transition has been harder on me than anything I could imagine,” Caitlyn said. “And that’s the case for so many others besides me. For that reason alone, trans people deserve something vital. They deserve your respect. And from that respect comes a more compassionate community, a more empathetic society and a better world for all of us.”

Finally, there’s Tracy Morgan, who overcame a horrible car accident in June of 2014. The comedian fought every day to come back for his family and career.

“This past June, Morgan said he was ‘at 75 percent,’ but by August, the formerly wheelchair-bound comedian was walking down the aisle to marry his longtime girlfriend, Megan Wollover,” Andreano writes.

“I survived that crash for a reason. I’m still here for a reason. I guess my room wasn’t ready,” Morgan recently told Barbara Walters. “Who knows? Maybe he kept me here to raise my daughter, to raise my family.”

Good Morning America couldn’t have picked a better bunch to represent the top celebrities of 2015. There are stories of triumph, perseverance, and achievement in the lives of each person, which is something we can all strive towards, as well. For now, Taylor Swift reigns supreme at the top of the list, but Adele is ready to have a huge 2016, and will probably dethrone Swift in the next year.
