waltercronkite

Legendary American news reader Walter Cronkite is said to be gravely ill and near death.

A report from Media Bistro suggests that CBS News has begun updating Cronkite’s obituary in preparation for his death. The same report notes that although Cronkite has been ill for some time, his health has recently taken a turn for the worse.

92 year old Cronkite started his career as a war correspondent, before being signed to CBS by the legendary Edward R. Murrow. Cronkite landed the anchor job at CBS Evening News on April 16, 1962, a job he held until his retirement in 1981.

UPDATE (July 17) Walter Cronkite dead.

This is very sad news…. he always felt like a member of our family……

  2. Walter Cronkite is also a fellow amateur (ham) radio operator FCC callsign KB2GSD. I hope and pray that he pulls through. If he doesn't it will be a great loss to humanity.

  3. I wish no one ill, but he was a fool who did much damage to this country.

I grew up receiving the nightly news from Walter Cronkite, a journalist we could trust to give us the facts. That's probably why I wanted to become a writer and later became a reporter for the St. Joseph, Mo., News-Press for 41 years. My family especially enjoyed watching his news specials over the years.
Afew years back, he traveled to St. Joseph and I was lucky enough to meet him and get a signed autograph copy of his book. He is my news hero above all others.
I'm so sorry to hear that he's ill.
    My prayers are with him,
    Alice McVicker
