It’s very skeptical whether it is being overly exaggerated but at the end of the day we all have to move forward to make this a better place.. I already posted this on the other thread. This picture alone is 5-6 years old. not sure if it was fake or real, but it started as and island somewhere not sure. They were mostly using dead animals, but they were getting them on a island where wilds cats and dogs were reproducing uncontorllably. I don't think the island was inhabited by people.I read another article they were monitoring this as well as find a way to sterilize the animals.

People can't just rant and rave about this – some French citizens need to take action and contact their legislatures – this is a monstrous and horrible thing. It must be stopped and those who perpetuate this kind of cruelty be made an example of in the most harsh way as possible.

I personally advocate running a few hooks into the mouths of one or two of these monsters. Tow them around as bait behind a boat. Lets see how much they enjoy the process.

While the practice of shark hunting is awful, and the thought of using our beloved pets is horrible Snopes sets the record straight as to what is really happening. The dogs are already dead, being picked up from the side of the road or other places, not used live and not killed for the purpose of use in the hunt (hopefully). In either case, I still think the practice should not be done. Sharks should not be hunted and killed!

They wouldnt like it if we used them fishermen so why is it ok for them to use puppies and kittens this makes me sick that they can do this. This has to stop right now :'(

If you truly wish to do something for animal rights in the fishing industry, look into how fish are killed during salmon seining. I have been responsible for the deaths of thousands of thinking, feeling creatures, and nobody bats an eye because they just aren't cute and cuddly. It is possible that a few people have done this to dogs, but not even vague proof is offered in this article. Furthermore, I haven't seen any actual proof on the internet beyond second-hand accounts and a picture that easily could have been photoshopped, and is referenced as "LIKE the dog above," not "pictured above." The claim of fishermen doing this to kittens is completely devoid of any proof beyond a youtube video showing B-roll of kittens being dangled over the water, then cutting to videos of fishing. Again, if it is happening, there is no proof.

Please people, don't be so easily fooled into being riled up. This is pretty clearly an attack against fishermen because it is a cruel industry, but it is spun to involve cats and dogs to tug on heartstrings because of the relationships that humans have with them. I would be willing to bet that the purpose of this petition was not truly to pressure governments into upping fines and jail time, but to get people saying to their friends, "oh yeah, fishermen? I hear they feed puppies to sharks. that's a messed-up industry, man." I will openly admit that fishing is disgustingly brutal, involving the torture and death of conscious scared living beings, but not puppies.

I can completely understand animal rights activism, and I appreciate the intent behind the petition, but this is the wrong way to go about getting people to think fishing is evil. everyone should check out videos of REAL LIVE fishing boats and what they do to the fish that they pull out of their homes, or just look at the pictures all over my facebook account. Look at this stuff while keeping in mind that fish also have a complex nervous system and are capable of more intricate thought than most give them credit for. they have feelings, like puppies, the only difference being that nobody gives two shits because they don't chase balls and laser-pointers. I certainly will not claim to be an activist for animal rights, but I would prefer that my friends look for evidence in articles like this before allowing themselves to be enraged. There is plenty in this world to be furious and active about, please don't waste your time on things like this when there is so little or no supporting evidence.

and furthermore, shark fishing around reunion island has been illegal for a while now. so again, the only purpose of this petition is to rile people up.

Hi Natasha…his owners haven't found him yet I called the pound today to see what was happening as his picture was taken down and I was hoping his family had been to get him but sadly not. He is being fostered through Shenton Parrk Dog refuge as he is too young to keep at the pound any longer. While he shouldn't have been there at all at least he is now with a family who can show him some love. Poor mite would have been terrified locked up. He is such an adorable lil fella. Id give them a call (Shenton)and see what the process is to adopt him. I'd have jumped at the chance but have 2 babies already

I just showed this picture to friend who's a vet – this dog couldn't have been used as a bait.
Unless the hooks were passed though his bone, the resistance of the water, caused by the speed of the boat would tear it's flesh apart and the hook would come off.
I am not saying that the above mentioned isn't happening, or wasn't happening, but my friend is ready to bet his diploma that this dog was never intended to be dragged behind a boat.
