‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 12 Relationship Spoilers — Alex And Jo To Marry? April And Jackson To Divorce?

The winter finale of Grey’s Anatomy left a lot of questions on the table as the show heads into its winter break. Not only were fans left wondering about Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Amelia’s (Caterina Scorsone) future and what will become of Owen’s (Kevin McKidd) troubled past with Nathan Riggs (Martin Henderson), but there are two couples whose futures may hang in the balance when the show finally returns to wrap up Season 12.

According to Hypable, although Alex (Justin Chambers) ended up proposing to Jo (Camila Luddington) in the winter finale, the two still have a lot of issues to work through if they want their relationship to work. In fact, the biggest obstacle to their marriage is Alex’s relationship with Meredith that goes well beyond conventional friendship.

With that in mind, fans witnessed the two on the brink of a breakup after Jo continued to express her frustration over the Meredith situation. “This isn’t working. I need someone in my corner. And the more I look at it the only person I have is me,” Jo told Alex during the finale. “And I don’t want to make you choose between me and your friends — your friend. But I can’t keep feeling like everyone’s second choice. Especially not yours. So I’m going to stay with Steph for a while.”

Although Alex’s reply was to ask her to marry him, Jo was not willing to dismiss the problems so easily. “You think this will make everything okay but you don’t listen,” she said.

Does this mean that Jo isn’t ready to marry Alex? At this point, it isn’t clear if Jo’s love for Alex will be enough for her to commit to a relationship where she doesn’t feel fully appreciated. That being said, they clearly love each other, so a potential wedding in the second half of the season is not out of the question.

Meanwhile, April (Sarah Drew) and Jackson (Jesse Williams) are facing quite a number of damaging problems of their own. Considering all the hardships they have endured in past seasons, will the two finally call it quits? Although the final scene between the two doctors left everyone wondering what will become of their relationship, they have a lot going for them that would seem to indicate that they will find a way to make it work.

In fact, according to EnStarz, both Williams and Drew have shown their ability to create plenty of chemistry on the show, whether they are loving each other or engaged in an argument. With so few relationships for the show to rely on being consistent, it would seem logical that Shonda Rhimes would want to keep them together.

That being said, nothing is really off the table when it comes to Grey’s Anatomy. This opens the possibility of a divorce for the two when the series picks back up in February.

At the same time, fans will have plenty of things to ponder while the show is off air. In addition to the relationship woes mentioned above, Meredith’s relationship with Amelia is about as bad as it’s ever been. According to Christian Today, not only is Amelia furious at Meredith for not telling her the inside scoop about Nathan, but Meredith turned around and kicked Amelia out during the finale.

Will Meredith and Amelia be able to mend their relationship, which is still haunted by Derek’s (Patrick Dempsey) death? Will Jo accept Alex’s proposal? Are Jackson and April destined to separate?

Fans will have to wait for answers to these questions and more when Grey’s Anatomy returns to television audiences on February 11.
