‘The Game Awards’ Teases Possible ‘Far Cry Primal’ Gameplay, ‘Witcher 3’ Leads Game Of The Year Nominees

This year’s upcoming award show for the video game industry, aptly named “The Game Awards 2015,” will air on Thursday at 9 p.m. Eastern, 6 p.m. Pacific. For many fans, this is the culmination of achievement for the prior year’s gaming elite: “Best Of” awards will be handed out, as well as the much coveted title “Game of the Year.” Many viewers, however, tune into these gaming award shows in order to see the newest game announcements or previews.

Shared via Twitter today, “The Game Awards” teased what viewers can expect to see at the upcoming awards show in LA.

“Last year I took a tremendous amount of risk, building this new awards show for gaming,” Geoff Keighley, creator of “The Game Awards” stated in the four-minute-long Twitter video. “I wasn’t sure how this would pan out, but afterwards there was such an outpouring of affection for the show that I felt compelled that we had to do it again.” The risk, Keighley mentions, included $1 million of his own personal life savings in order fund the show last year in Las Vegas, according to a New York Times interview.

One of the major reasons, as Geoff points out in his video, that people tune into “The Game Awards” is for the world premieres, both game announcements and gameplay premieres. This year, it seems Ubisoft’s upcoming Far Cry Primal will be leading the premieres, with its first ever gameplay reveal coming at “The Game Awards.”

Coming in February, Far Cry Primal is a game set 12,000 years ago, during the Stone Age. The most recent Ice Age has waned, making the valley of Oros the much needed backdrop as the home for a variety of hunters and their prey.

Also being debuted on “The Game Awards” is another premiere of Quantum Break gameplay, showcased on screen by the game’s protagonist, Shawn Ashmore. Not only will “The Game Awards” showcase new gameplay, but fans will also see the first clips from the live-action component that makes up part of the game. Featuring Ashmore and Game of Thrones actor Aidan Gillen, Quantum Break seeks to blend a video game with a live-action television show, giving players another avenue to consume the game’s story.

“At the heart of the show, what’s really important to me, is to celebrate the culture of gaming,” Keighley stressed in the video. And, of course, the best way to do that is to celebrate the game creators and hand out awards that showcase the best of the best in the gaming industry the past year. Leading the way is CD Projekt Red’s masterwork by many accounts, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

“The Game Awards” would be just another “Game of the Year” award for The Witcher 3, as they’ve already won five global “Game of the Year” awards. In addition to “Game of the Year,” The Witcher 3 is nominated for seven different awards at “The Game Awards,” including “Best Role-playing Game,” “Best Art Direction,” “Best Score/Soundtrack,” and developer CD Projekt Red is up for the “Developer of the Year” award this week. Other games such as Fallout 4, Metal Gear Solid V, and Bloodborne are nominated for multiple awards at “The Game Awards.”

Nominees for “The Game Awards” are chosen by a panel of 32 international journalists, with games commercially released before November 24 up for consideration. Many pan “The Game Awards,” claiming they don’t celebrate all aspects of the industry, as there are no awards for graphics or the underlying tech running the games being represented.
