‘Bunchems’ Toy Stuck In Hair? Reviews Say WD-40 Gets ‘Bunchems’ Out Of Children’s Hair [Videos]

A new toy called Bunchems is apparently so hot and popular, according to Fox 6 Now, that Bunchems are expected to be one of the hottest toys for the 2015 Christmas season. The Bunchems toys that are shipped from and sold by Amazon now come with a warning to keep Bunchems away from hair. The Bunchems could be tangled in the hair, warns the Amazon description.

As seen in the below toy review of the Bunchems product, the little colorful toys are meant to be squished together. Bunchems remind folks of those sticker bug plant pieces that can get stuck to socks when one walks in the woods. The below video review of Bunchems has more than 40,000 views after having been uploaded to YouTube on October 12. However, there’s a much more popular video uploaded more recently, instructing parents how to get the sticky Bunchems out of their children’s hair.

Although photos of Bunchems in kids’ hair can look really cute with all the various colors decorating the hair, the photos showing hair ripped out and cut out in order to extract the Bunchems aren’t as cute.

On the Bunchems Instagram page, plenty of other ways that kids can play with Bunchems are shown, and they don’t involve putting the Bunchems in the hair. Instead, photos of Bunchems toys shaped into a variety of objects, such as make-believe ice cream cones and the like, are shown instead. The YouTube video titled “How to Remove Bunchems From Your Hair” has more than 111,000 views. That video recommends using hair condition or vegetable oil to get the Bunchems to slide out of the hair, but a different Amazon reviewer recommended using WD-40. It may likely depend on just how gnarled the Bunchems have become within the hair, and the texture and length of said hair.

BuzzFeed has plenty of photos of girls with Bunchems toys stuck in their hair. Watching the YouTube video about removing Bunchems from the hair, as well as reading some Amazon reviews, gives parents ideas on how to try and safely remove the Bunchems from their kids’ hair without much damage.

“The worst toy ever!!!!!! My daughter just got for a birthday present and they all got stuck in her hair. We had to cut them out of her hair. We threw them out would not recommend to anyone.”

One Amazon reviewer noted that using hair conditioner might seem like a great idea to get the Bunchems out of the hair, but writes that WD-40 works better.

“Want to get these out of hair? Don’t use conditioner–it’ll just make the hair swell. Use WD-40 instead. It smells terrible, but they will slide right out!!”

“My child came home from school with one of these in her hair and it had to be CUT OUT. It was AWFUL!!!! DO NOT BUY THIS TOY unless you want to shave your kids head.”

“So I knew all the warnings about them getting caught in hair and it still happened to us today. My daughter’s little creation got left on the bed and then she rolled over it during nap time. Luckily she has short and fine hair so we were fortunate with only a 10-15 minute ordeal and minimal loss of hair. I will still give this toy 3 stars because it is a fun, creative toy as long as you 100% supervise your child and take it away when they are done.”

The popular new toy called Bunchems jut might be avoided by some parents who don’t want to think of the nightmare of trying to remove 370 Bunchems pieces (or less) from their child’s hair. Or, the brightly colored Bunchems might represent too much of a hassle for those parents who simply want to hand their kids a toy and have them go to town expressing their creativity without needing to be supervised.
