How To Survive A Terrorist Attack And Other Terror Threats

With a growing number of Americans concerned for their safety in the wake of the Paris attacks, experts are warning those caught in a terrorist attack not to play dead.

As Brussels hunkers down under the threat of an imminent terrorist attack for another day, Britain’s counter terrorism office has released a series of tips to help anyone caught in a terrorist attack survive the event.

The advice was published after 129 people were killed and another 350 wounded in the gruesome terrorist attacks in Paris, according to The Guardian.

Increased threat level in Belgium and France remains.

Don’t Play Dead

Several victims of the Paris terrorist attacks survived by playing dead, but experts warn that could be a dangerous tactic. Instead, the best idea is to run, hide, and tell.

Any terrorist attack is naturally a high stress situation, but if victims can stay calm they stand a much better chance of surviving the event.

The first thing to do is consider escape options. If there’s a safe route, away from the attackers the best thing is to run; remember to take others with you and leave possessions behind.

If there’s no safe way out, the next best strategy is to hide. Find cover from the attackers gunfire behind something solid like a brick or metal wall; window glass will not protect you. Remember to turn off your cell phone and be quiet; if possible barricade yourself behind a door.

Tell authorities about the attack as soon as possible. They’ll need to know the location of the attack, descriptions of the attackers and where they were last seen.

Terror Threats

Belgium and France remain on high alert nine days after the Paris terrorist attacks claimed the lives of 129 people and wounded 350 others and American authorities have increased security measures in large cities across the country.

Belgian authorities conducted 20 raids ending in the arrest of 16 people although no firearms or explosives were found and Paris police asked for the public’s help in finding more information about the terrorists.

Beginning Monday, children in France will have their bags searched and their identities confirmed before they enter school.

The Belgium capital of Brussels remains on the highest level of alert. Subways remain closed and authorities are discouraging large groups of people from gathering in one place, according to CNN.

“We are talking of a threat of several individuals with weapons and explosives, to launch acts, maybe even in several places at once.”

Atlanta Threat

The FBI confirmed they were taking seriously threats against a WWE Survivor Series event in Atlanta Sunday evening, according to WSB-TV Atlanta.

“While we take all threats seriously, we do not have specific or credible information of an attack at this time. We have, however, made the proper notifications as we continue to work closely with our law enforcement and private sector partners to keep our community safe.”

FBI takes Atlanta threat seriously

The hacking group Anonymous reported the ISIS threat Saturday among a list of sites they said they had uncovered. France, Indonesia, Italy and Lebanon were also on the list.

The Paris terrorist attacks last Friday were followed by an attack on a Mali hotel that claimed the lives of 22 people. The attack on the former French colony struck many in France with a renewed sense of terror and authorities across the globe are concerned about future attacks.

President Obama, however, has called on the world to conduct business as normal so as not to let the terrorist win by disrupting normal life.
