Mad Decent Promised Refunds From The Fatal Cruise, But Amount Disappoints

The stories surrounding the Mad Decent Party Cruise are heating up, especially since the people on the cruise, who were promised a refund, are unhappy with the amount that they have been offered. A woman jumped overboard on the first day of the Mad Decent Party Cruise, and her body has not been recovered.

According to the Inquisitr, a woman, Kaylyn Sommer, jumped overboard just off the coast of Cuba on the Mad Decent cruise, which sailed from Miami to Cozumel. The ship, the Norwegian Pearl, was full of EDM enthusiasts there to enjoy the floating version of the Mad Decent Block Party. The FBI has now taken over the investigation into the why and how of Sommer, of Charleston, South Carolina, going overboard, presumably to her death. Sommer leaves behind a husband and young daughter.

Jezebel is reporting that the Mad Decent event, which cost each person $1000 per person per ticket, has a lot of participants asking for their money back, but the refund that they are being offered is less than expected.

“After the incident, DJ sets were cancelled and the cruise-takers never made it to their final destination of Mexico (from Miami). According to TMZ, the cruise company and the organizers told passengers that refunds would be distributed. But instead of the full $1,000, passengers say they received $57.47 in refunds.”

It is being said that the $57.47 refund offered is the cost of the excursion plus the port taxes, and that nothing else is refundable. Participants are begging to differ.

“In a callous move, one person told TMZ, ‘I’m sorry about this one girl but there are thousands of us who didn’t need to be punished…We didn’t get Mexico or most of what we were promised.'”

Music Times has revealed that Sommer going overboard put a major damper on things, plus it changed the schedule of events for the Mad Decent cruise.

“The four-day party was cut short after the incident and refunds were issued by Mad Decent and the cruise line Norwegian Cruise Line, but fans are not happy with the amount that they have received.”

The ship never actually made it to Mexico for an all-day party on the coast with an open bar. There were still performances on board, but a few of the acts did cancel.

“Currently the FBI are investigating the incident involving Sommer and her going overboard. Mad Decent Boat Party brought together some of the biggest and best DJs from the staple of Mad Decent artists as well as others. Those include Skrillex, Diplo, Major Lazer, Grandtheft, Dillon Francis, Party Favor, Jauz and many more.”

A first person account was given by the online magazine Thump.

“Sitting at Keys ‘N Krates Bingo, all dressed up for Animal Theme Night when the man-overboard announcement came over the loudspeaker, we really didn’t understand the gravity of the situation.”

The author reported that though it was sad that the tragedy occurred, the event itself was still memorable for other reasons.

“You would think that the tragedy of Kaylyn’s death and the resulting cancelled beach party would be the ultimate party downer, but the humanity on board was the thing that I’ll always remember when I think back about our ill-fated cruise.”

Do you think that the people on the cruise should get an additional refund?
