Zayn Malik And Liam Payne May Collaborate Amid Malik Slamming One Direction Music

Although One Direction will soon take a hiatus, there is at least one of the guys in the band, along with a former member of the band, that may collaborate together soon. In a recent interview, former One Direction member Zayn Malik revealed that he may be teaming up with Liam Payne to make music once the band takes an extended break next year.

Hollywood Life reports that in a recent interview with Fader magazine, Malik stated that he connected with Payne over the phone last month for the first time since he left the band. The friends talked about working together in the future, something that they’ve talked about before while Malik was still a part of One Direction. Malik also mentioned that Payne harbors no ill feelings against him, even though he left the band back in March, in the midst of a world tour.

“He understands that it’s my thing, that I had to do that, and that basically he wants to meet up and sit down and have a good chat in person, and he wants to do some music and work on some stuff aside from being in the band, which we always wanted to do anyway.”

However, it wasn’t always so easy for Payne to understand. Zayn admits that it took a bit of explaining and time in order for Liam to realize why his bandmate left the group.

“He said that he didn’t understand it at the time, but he now fully gets why I had to do what I did.”

For those that aren’t fully aware why Malik actually left the band, the singer explains that although he’s always loved his fans, he never liked One Direction music, and simply put, his heart wasn’t into it. This is a far cry from what he said earlier this year, when he revealed he was leaving “the best band in the world.”

“I’m working every day now, but I’m working on music that I enjoy. One Direction’s music is not music that I would listen to. Would you listen to One Direction, sat at a party with your girl? I wouldn’t… If I was sat at a dinner date with a girl, I would play some cool sh**, you know what I mean? I want to make music that I think is cool sh**.”

Yet tension may still exist between Malik and one of the other members of One Direction, or it at least seemed implicated when the boys appeared on The Ellen Degeneres Show on November 18. While daytime talk show host Ellen wasted no time asking if the guys had talked to Zayn, it was only Liam that stated he had. Harry Styles, on the other hand, let out an uncomfortable laugh. When Ellen questioned him, Styles stated that the he could “cut the tension” in the room, implying that he felt uneasy.

The Ellen interview came right after Zayn’s tell-all interview with Fader magazine, and although neither Styles nor any of the guys mentioned it, there’s a possibility that not quite all of them, sans Liam, were too thrilled with their former band mate’s responses.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that Malik actually wanted to leave the band much earlier than he did, and that it was always on his mind until it actually happened.

“I was always thinking it. I just didn’t know when I was going to do it.”

Although there still isn’t an official word if Liam will for sure collaborate with his former bandmate, Zayn Malik definitely has new solo music on the way; it’s music that he feels will help people understand why he had to leave One Direction and go his own way.

“I don’t feel like people really know what I’m going to give them, musically. “And once they hear it, I feel like they will understand me a little bit more, and they’ll understand why I did what I did, and why I left the band, and why I had to write this sh** down.”
