Lamar Odom: Khloe Says She Won’t Tell Him How He Got Brain Injury

Lamar Odom is still recovering after being found unconscious in a Nevada brothel last month, and his estranged wife Khloe Kardashian says he still has a long way to go in his physical therapy.

Odom is learning how to walk and talk again, Khloe told Ellen DeGeneres last week, and he doesn’t remember how he came to be in the hospital. Although several conflicting reports came out in the media about his condition immediately following his hospitalization, it’s clear that Lamar has quite a bit of recovery ahead of him.

According to Khloe, Lamar doesn’t remember his time at the brothel or the events leading to his blackout–which include drug use and several subsequent strokes–and she says she won’t tell him, at least not right away.

“He is off all the machines that help his organs but he has such a long way to go. He’s learning how to walk again and feed himself again and put sentences together. It’s a long long road ahead. We tell him he had a brain injury. I can’t tell him how that brain injury was caused. It will set him back. He’s really confused a lot, we have to remind him. Every day is different. Sometimes he knows who the president is, and his birthday, and other times he thinks he’s 26, and I say: I bet you wish you were 26, so do I,” Khloe said.

A report from TMZ says that Lamar Odom suffered serious brain damage and has been unable to progress very far in recent weeks; he reportedly still has trouble recognizing friends and family. Khloe has been at his side since the incident even though the two of them have been separated for quite a while on the road to a divorce.

Khloe has expressed regret that she has to promote her new book, Strong Looks Better Naked, in the middle of Lamar’s recovery and says she had trouble not feeling guilty when she left the hospital to go to they gym.

“Just recently I’ve been in the hospital for almost three-and-a-half weeks straight, and finally everyone was saying, ‘Khloe, you have to get out of the hospital and do something that’s for you’. I had such anxiety going to the gym, but as soon as I left, I felt like, ‘Oh my God, I’m okay. I’m human again.’ I just felt so good. But for those three weeks, I didn’t think about the gym because I was thinking about other things, and I don’t beat myself up about it,” Khloe Kardashian said.

Khloe recently released a teaser trailer for the book–which shows her stripping down–and posted a photo on Instagram showing a huge bouquet of flowers from the publisher. Kardashian talks about her struggles with weight and body image in the book and says that her appearance is something that’s always in flux.

“There is no such thing as perfect. Nobody attains perfection. But if you keep working at it, you grow and evolve, and to me that’s sort of the point,” Khloe says.

As for Lamar, a source told People that Khloe has been afraid of something like this for a while, since she became aware of his issues with drugs.

“This is exactly what she feared. Everyone is hoping that this will be a reality check for him and that he will make a change in his life and be the man he was created to be,” the source said.

It’s unclear at this point whether Lamar Odom will be able to play basketball again, and if he does, when that day will come.
