Justin Bieber Wows Radio 1 Teen Awards With ‘What Do You Mean?’ And More [Video]

Justin Bieber was the surprise first performer at Radio 1’s Teen Awards on Sunday. The 21-year-old took to the stage to play three of his biggest hits.

Based on the deafening screams heard in video footage, the Biebs’ full-on entrance not only shocked but wowed the young audience at the SSE Wembley Arena in London. The superstar walked out to fireworks and the shimmering opening strains of his Jack U? collaboration, “Where Are U? Now?” Next up, was 2012’s “Boyfriend.” The Canadian closed with previous worldwide No.1 “What Do You Mean?

At the end of his short set, Justin thanked Radio 1 and the reportedly 9,000 screaming fans in attendance, telling them he was “grateful” to them, adding that he “wouldn’t be here on this stage if it wasn’t for you guys.”

As he walked off stage, the heartthrob reminded the crowd that his forthcoming album, Purpose, officially drops on November 13.

Bieber’s “Boyfriend” performance is included in the clip below.

For the die-hards, a slightly longer version of “What Do You Mean?”

Although the “Sorry” singer recently walked out of inane Spanish radio interview, then pulled out of a concert in Oslo, Norway over a fan’s water spillage one day after, Radio 1’s Teen Awards suggests Justin had a great time at the show.

Other artists at the awards included Demi Lovato, 5 Seconds of Summer, Little Mix, Nick Jonas, All Time Low, and more. The show was hosted by Radio 1 Breakfast Show DJ Nick Grimshaw.

The teen awards weren’t the only show Bieber attended over the weekend. The singer performed “What Do You Mean?” and was presented with an Award of Honor at the NRJ Music Awards in Cannes, France on Saturday.

Other artists at the starry event included Adele, Coldplay, Major Lazer, Sting, and more.

Meanwhile, with just four days until Purpose drops, the Biebs teased his album with a 90 second teaser for “The Feeling” — a duet with indie-alt pop songstress, Halsey — last week.

On Sunday, the pop prince shared an Instagram video of himself excitedly listing to the collaborations on his LP. Features include Nas, Big Sean, a co-write with Ed-Sheeran, Jack U?, Halsey, and Ariana Grande on a remix of “What Do You Mean?”

According to the Biebs, at least three of the songs on the album are about his former girlfriend, Selena Gomez. The Latina’s new album Revival contains many tracks about Justin.

During a sit-down with host Ellen DeGeneres on her show (the episode airs Monday), the Canadian said “Mark My Words,” “What Do You Mean?” and (partly) “Sorry” are about the actress-singer. The interview kicks off a week of Bieber on The Ellen Degeneres Show, which will conclude with a huge outdoor concert on Friday.

Watch some of the chat below. Justin also sang an acoustic snippet of “Sorry” for the first time. Purpose lands on November 13.
