‘Teen Mom 2’ Star Leah Messer ‘Crying’ After Losing Twins, ‘Never Thought’ Corey Simms Would Be Awarded Primary Custody

Teen Mom 2 star Leah Messer is said to be devastated after losing primary custody of her 5-year-old twin girls, Ali and Aleeah, to ex-husband Corey Simms, who had filed for full custody of the children in 2014. According to an In Touch Weekly report on October 21, the Teen Mom 2 star went to court last week, where her ex was named as the girls’ primary custodian “effective immediately.”

While the Teen Mom 2 star previously had her daughters all week long, she will now see them only on weekends, as her ex-husband, Simms, and his wife, Miranda, take on more responsibility with the girls. Now, as they await the birth of Simms’ third child, he and Miranda will be taking the girls to school and Ali to her physical therapy appointments, which Messer was often unable to do. In fact, the report claimed Messer’s failure to get her girls to school on time was a factor in the judge’s decision to grant Simms with primary custody.

Although Messer losing custody appeared to be a long time coming for viewers of Teen Mom 2, the new court agreement has come as a major shock to Messer, who entered treatment in May for issues of anxiety and depression.

“Leah’s been crying,” an insider told In Touch Weekly, via a Radar Online report on October 21. “She never thought this would happen.”

Throughout the sixth season of Teen Mom 2, Messer was seen in a number of questionable situations, including an odd moment where she appeared to nod out and nearly drop her brother’s baby (she later claimed that despite the footage of the incident, it didn’t actually occur).

“The young mother of three was caught on camera this season exhibiting bad mom behavior, including feeding the kids dinner at midnight, neglecting them in the car, and cursing in front of them,” Radar Online explained.

Also, claimed the site, “Insiders were concerned with how fast she moved on with boyfriend T.R. Dues, a 32-year-old personal trainer with two kids of his own, two months before her divorce from Calvert was finalized.”

At the beginning of Teen Mom 2 Season 6, Messer was seen going to court with Simms, where she was forced to submit a drug test. According to previous reports, Messer had become addicted to pain pills, but because she had a prescription for the pills, she was said to have “passed” the test. Still, as fans saw on Teen Mom 2, Simms, as well as Messer’s second husband, Jeremy Calvert, remained concerned for their daughters’ safety, especially when they were driving with the reality star.

After initially filing for custody last year, Simms continued his battle for the twins in the months that followed, and as Messer reportedly continued to spiral downward, it seemed to make sense to the judge that he and Miranda take on more time with the twins.

“Leah’s really been screwing up since then, so Corey took her back to court. The judge looked at the girls’ school records, which show that they’ve been late for school, and made the change in custody.”

Messer and Simms have remained silent since the news of their new custody agreement broke.

MTV has yet to officially renew Teen Mom 2 for a seventh season. However, according to a Radar Online report, Messer and her co-stars, including Kailyn Lowry, Javi Marroquin, Chelsea Houska, Cole DeBoer, Adam Lind, and Jenelle Evans, have already begun filming the 2016 installment of Teen Mom 2.
