Ben Carson: Bullet Wounds Not As ‘Devastating’ As Losing Gun Rights, Gun-Free Zones Are Basically A Death Sentence

Ben Carson says what’s “more devastating” than seeing bullet wounds in an injured body is “losing gun rights.”

NBC News reports that in a Q&A session that Carson held on Facebook Monday night, the popular GOP presidential candidate said that he’s operated on bodies with bullet wounds, “but I never saw a body with bullet holes that was more devastating than taking the right to arm ourselves away.”

Carson, who’s holding the lead alongside Donald Trump in the Republican presidential polls, told USA Today that he’d feel comforted to know that if he had a child in kindergarten, someone on the premises would have a gun to protect students from harm. In the same report, Carson adds that after reading a historical book on government tyranny, he changed his mind about not supporting assault weapons. He sees them as an essential part of gun rights and the Second Amendment.

The presidential hopeful made other assertions about gun ownership and gun control, insisting that if schools weren’t gun-free zones, gunmen would be less likely to target them. He views gun-free zones as a death sentence on their own. Carson says that Democrats are using any gun tragedy to their advantage.

“The Left would prefer to use these tragedies to advance a political agenda. To me, that is also devastatingly sad. The Left would have you believe that a man that asked Christians to stand up (and then executed them one by one) would obey ‘new gun laws.’ That kind of logic explains many of the problems we find ourselves in today.”

On another note, the neurosurgeon explains that stricter gun control won’t mean a thing to criminals. If they don’t respect the law, they don’t care what gun control measures are in place.

“You’re not going to handle [the issue] with more gun control because gun control only works for normal law abiding citizens, it doesn’t work for crazies.”

His controversial comments notwithstanding, Carson is a huge favorite among all of the Republican candidates — even rivaling Donald Trump.

As seen in the above Twitter image, Ben Carson is proud to be a Christian and displayed this sign after it was discovered that the Oregon shooter was targeting Christians at Umpqua Community College on October 1.

In a shocking twist regarding the UCC shootings, Carson spoke with Fox and Friends on Tuesday and somewhat insulted victims of the tragedy by saying witnesses should have done more to prevent the violence. As Washington Post reports, the 64-year-old presidential candidate believed those in the classroom where the attack took place should have worked harder to defend themselves.

“I would not just stand there and let him shoot me. I would say, ‘Hey guys, everybody attack him. He may shoot me, but he can’t get us all.'”

More regarding guns and politics will be addressed in Carson’s book, A Perfect Union. While Ben Carson feels bullets in a body is “more devastating” than tighter gun restrictions, he’s up against a whole new level of people who will be emotionally disturbed by that statement.

Ben Carson fired back at critics who he feels underestimate his abilities to be president just because he hasn’t been on this platform before. He explains that it’s far more difficult to be a surgeon than navigate the political world.

“You don’t need to know nearly as much to be able to maneuver in the political world as you do in the operating room inside of somebody’s brain. It’s not even close.”
