Man Converting 727 Jet Into Dream Home [Video]

An out-of-service 727 passenger jet is rapidly becoming the dream home of plane enthusiast Bruce Campbell.

Campbell invited a CNN camera crew into his novel home, which is tucked away in the woods of Oregon. He describes the grounded 727-200 aircraft as a ‘bird that’s meant to fly.’

While still a work-in-progress, Campbell says the prospect of living in the plane full-time ‘exhilarates’ him. And, with three bathrooms, scenic views and no noisy neighbors, it’s not hard to see why.

Entering and exiting the plane-cum-home involves lowering the plane’s stairs. Once inside, guests will find already-functioning electricity and plumbing, including a temporary working shower that Campbell has set up in the main cabin of the plane. The proud owner admits the shower doesn’t offer much privacy, but Campbell’s location means this is not such a concern.

Unsurprisingly, it’s the main cockpit that is Campbell’s favorite part of his new home – he calls it his ‘favorite playroom.’ And, when the sun shines, the aircraft’s wings make for great decks, especially as they are easily accessed through the emergency exits.

Dozens of passenger chairs have already been ripped out of the main cabin, leaving plenty of room for Campbell’s possessions. Currently, cardboard boxes that are waiting to be unpacked litter the cabin floor. Campbell admits:

“It’s not for everybody. But I think it is for a lot of people and it is definitely for me. I absolutely love it.”
