Cricket fans could watch history made live online if Zimbabwe is able to defeat Pakistan in the Third One Day International of the three-match series between the two nations — a match that wraps up the brief Pakistan visit to the African country whose national cricket team has shown flashes of quality, but overall has suffered from inconsistent play, which is costly against a top opponent such as Pakistan.
After losing two T20 matches against visiting Pakistan, Zimbabwe got the subsequent ODI series off to a dismal start from the Africans perspective, losing by a decisive 151-run margin.
But on Friday, in the pivotal second match of the series, Zimbabwe came to life, setting a respectable target of 277 — and then holding Pakistan to a seemingly devastating 76 for six by the time Shoaib Malik and Aamer Yamin were able to ressurect Pakistan’s hopes with a 111-run stand.
The match ended controversially, in shortened fashion due to what the umpires deemed to be inadequate remaining daylight, leaving a furious Malik stuck at 96 not out. But in the end, the always controversial Duckworth-Lewis scoring system came into play, and under the D/L Method, Zimbabwe was still five runs in front when play was shut down.
As a result, Zimbabwe stand on the verge of their first-ever series win over Pakistan in any format — an their first series triumph over a Top 10 world cricket team, with the exception of Bangladesh, in 14 years.
To find out how to watch Zimbabwe attempt to make cricket history, see the streaming information at the bottom of this article. The action gets underway at 9:30 a.m. Monday, October 5, Central Africa Time at Harare Sports Club in Harare, Zimbabwe. In the United States, the start time will be 3:30 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time, 12:30 a.m. Pacific time.
While Pakistan fans were outraged by the stoppage in play of the second ODI, expressing their displeasure on Twitter, Pakistan Captain Azhar Ali took the high road, acknowledging his team’s own batting failures.
“It was a lovely game, Malik and Yamin made us comeback in the game when it looked like a one-sided game. Zimbabwe played really well, we could have retricted them to under 250, but they played well at the end. But we lost too many wickets at the start.”
Ali himself opened the batting notching just a single run before being bowled by Zimbabwe’s Tinashe Panyangara.
Zimbabwe has not won a series this year, but since July 19, they have notched three single-match victories against world elite sides, topping India in a T20 match, followed by wins over New Zealand and, of course, Pakistan in ODI games.
