Iron Patriot To Be ‘Iron Man 3’ Villain? Costume Spotted On Set
Who will Iron Man be facing off against in the new movie? A photo of the Iron Patriot costume on the set of the new movie has many believing that Robert Downey Jr. will be squaring off against his patriotic counterpart in Iron Man 3.
The leaked set photos seem to be pretty obvious evidence that the Iron Patriot will appear in Iron Man 3 but Cinema Online reports that the Iron Patriot could be a contractual problem. The Iron Patriot is the robotic alter-ego of Spiderman villain Norman Osborn. Since Sony owns all the rights to Spiderman story lines, the Iron Patriot may not actually be appearing in Iron Man 3.
OR, Marvel, Disney, and Sony have all reached a deal to combine the two worlds.
The Avengers, which tied together four movies (Iron Man, Captain America, The Hulk, and Thor) became the highest grossing movie of the year. If Sony and Marvel did reach a deal, the next Avengers movie could add several characters from the world of Spider-Man.
SFX reports that the Iron Patriot may also be a weird spin on War Machine, or maybe the precursor to the cyborg Coldblood.
But for now, everything’s just speculation. The plot of Iron Man 3 hasn’t been released. On The Red Carpet reports that the most persistent rumors is that Tony Stark will travel to China to fight The Mandarin (Ben Kingsley).
“We had one source involved with the production tell us that Mandarin was definitely the villain… He said Mandarin had a set of twins that did most of his dirty work for him. Another source who had visited EUE/Screen Gems Studios told us that the sets they were building included Chinese storefronts.”
