Gigi Hadid Slams Body Shamers on Instagram — ‘If I Didn’t Have The Body I Do, I Wouldn’t Have The Career I Do’

Gigi Hadid is fed up of people body shaming her on Instagram.

The 20-year-old fashion model lashed back at her haters via an Instagram post that showed that Gigi is not ashamed of her figure, despite the hateful comments.

“So many people are so quick to comment negative opinions this month,” Hadid said on Instagram. “Yes, judgment on social media comes from people who, 99% of the time, have no idea what they’re talking about, but I’m human, and I’m not going to lie, I did let the negativity get to me a little,”

The Gigi Hadid Instagram page has been flooded with negative comments about her body weight. And the comments can get pretty nasty.

“@gigihadid, you should drop 7 pounds before next runway,” a user named Dora Malnar commented on a picture of Hadid walking the Tommy Hilfiger show at New York Fashion Week.

“It’s sad that weight you can carry on the runway grows with the influence of your parents,” she continued. “We all know that if some girl with no background looking like Gigi wanted to do runway, she would be sent home in tears.”

A quick read of her Wikipedia page will tell you that Gigi Hadid is the daughter of real estate developer Mohamed Hadid and former model Yolanda (born Yolanda Van den Herik.) Her parents divorced, and her mother went on to marry acclaimed music producer David Foster. Her mother is best known as one of the housewives on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

But although her Instagram detractors claim that her body weight would have killed her modelling career if it weren’t for her parents, Gigi states that modelling agents have told her that she needed to lose weight in the past. In an interview she gave to Daily Mail Australia, Gigi claimed she would cry at night when agents would reject her because of her body weight.

“A lot of them were like, ‘You have to lose a lot of weight.’ I would cry at night and my mom would be like, ‘We’re going to find the right people.’ “

Hadid has an athletic body which is a result of her love of volleyball, a sport she pursued before embarking on her modelling career.

“I had like crazy muscles and I [ate] like a man — more than the man that I eat like now, like a bigger man — and it was crazy,” she added. “But at the time I didn’t care what my body looked like, I just wanted to be the best volleyball player I could be so it didn’t really matter to me.”

That changed when modelling agents started rejecting Gigi because she was bigger than the standard sample size.

“Once I started modeling, one of my things was like yeah, I don’t need to be a man volleyball player but I also don’t want to be like two pounds soaking wet,” she continued. “And that’s always something that I was very strong minded about, I just want to be a healthy role model and I haven’t swayed from that at all.”

Gigi Hadid is currently signed to IMG Models. She has appeared on the runway for high fashion brands like Marc Jacobs, Dolce and Gabbana, Giles, Sonia Rykiel, and Chanel, among others. Hadid got her big break in the fashion industry when she appeared on the cover of former Vogue France editor Carine Roitfield’s new publication, CR Fashion Book. Gigi is very well connected in the entertainment industry. Gigi and Kendall Jenner are childhood friends who also happen to be related in a complicated way. Gigi is also currently in a relationship with pop music star Joe Jonas.
