Scant Leads In The Kidnapping, Murder of Ali Landry’s In-Laws — Car Linked To Crime Probed

Police are following scant leads as they search for the killers of Ali Landry’s father-in-law and brother-in-law, who disappeared on September 4 and were found dead two weeks later.

Authorities in the Gulf coast state of Veracruz, Mexico, are conducting a forensic examination on a vehicle that may have been used by the kidnappers, Page Six reported. License plates on the car indicated it was from a neighboring state, Tamaulipas, bordering Texas.

Meanwhile, condolences for Landry and her family are pouring in, but Ali herself has declined to discuss the murders publicly, Fox News added.

The deceased are Manuel Gomez Fernedez and his son, Juan Manuel Gómez Monteverde. They are the father and brother, respectively, of Ali’s husband, Mexican director Alejandro Gomez Monteverde. Local reports indicate that Landry’s in-laws were kidnapped sometime after they left Tamaulipas. That area is known for its dangerous gang activity.

A report of their disappearance was filed in Mexico City with a unit that investigates organized crime.

In a grim detail, local authorities have revealed that both Landry’s relatives suffered traumatic brain injuries. Both had been dead for at least a week and dropped in a rural area called El Chachalaco.

They weren’t discovered until September 19, several days after their deaths.

According to The Latin Post, Ali’s in-laws were kidnapped after leaving their home in Tamaulipas. Afterward, a ransom was reportedly paid for their release, but whoever kidnapped them reneged on the deal. The Post also reported this detail: Juan was a business partner at a restaurant called La Pecerita, which has reportedly been the site of drug cartel activity.

That region of Mexico — southern Tamaulipas and north of Veracruz — is known for lawlessness and high crime rates. Drug cartels have been blamed.

The vehicle connected to the kidnapping was also found by police; forensic testing on that piece of evidence, and the investigation in the deaths of Landry’s relatives, continues, said a spokesman for the Veracruz state prosecutor’s office, Omar Zuniga.

Meanwhile, Monteverde’s colleagues have spoken out in grief for the deaths of Ali Landry’s family, but also in anger at the apparent cause behind it — drug-related violence, USA Today added.

“With a heart full of pain and sadness, I ask for prayers for my friend and brother Alejandro Gomez Monteverde and his family,” a producer on one of Monteverde’s films, Little Boy, Eduardo Verastegui tweeted in Spanish.

Ali Landry is an actress and former Miss USA. Crowned in 1996, she represented the state of Louisiana. She also starred as the “Doritos Girl” in a 1998 Superbowl commercial. She has starred in several TV shows and commercials, including some with her husband, and is mom to three kids.
