Seattle: Ride The Duck Vehicle Collides With Bus, Two Confirmed Dead

On Thursday morning, a Ride The Duck vehicle collided with a charter bus on the State Route 99 Aurora bridge. The Seattle Fire Department confirmed two fatalities and at least nine critically injured in the collision.

The crashed happened around 11:15 a.m., and not many details have come from the crash. Sue Stengi on the Seattle Fire Department said that the Ride The Duck vehicle ripped a large gash into the side of the charter bus. Stengi also believes that the two fatalities were both riding the charter bus. Firefighters set up a triage center near the scene to evaluate over 50 victims who were involved in the crash between the Ride The Duck vehicle and the charter bus, according to Daily Mail.

“We were able to get a lot of resources here very, very quickly.”

The full extent of people injured and their injuries are currently unknown. Details on both drivers of the buses are also unknown, and currently, police have not confirmed who was at fault for the accident.

Witnesses of the accident told the New York Daily News that they saw victims of the crash fly out of the charter bus when the accident occurred. Lance Jacobsen was one of the witnesses, and stated the following.

“Two people flew out of the front of the bus and I believe two people flew out of the Ride The Duck bus.”

Jacobsen also said that it appeared that the Ride The Duck vehicle veered into the middle lane before both the buses collided head-on. Images of the charter bus makes it appear like the bus had exploded.

Over 90 firefighters are on the scene, and areal shots of the accident show several people being removed from the vehicles on stretchers.

Currently, the accident is blocking all northbound and southbound lanes on Route 99. Victims of the Ride The Duck accident are being transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where nurses are expecting over 25 patients to arrive with unknown injuries.

The Ride The Duck is a popular tourist attraction that started in Seattle in 1997, and the company owns at least 20 amphibious vehicles. This is not the first time a Ride The Duck vehicle was involved in an accident. In July, a Ride The Duck vehicle hit a pedestrian as it was giving its tour.
