Andre Salaman Bautista Charged With Attempted Murder — ‘Emmy Winning Producer’ Surrenders But Pleads ‘Not Guilty’

Daytime Emmy Award-winning producer Andre Salaman Bautista has been arrested for allegedly attacking his roommate with a knife.

Andre Salaman Bautista, who goes by the name of Andre Bauth, has been accused of stabbing his roommate during an altercation that started small, but quickly escalated. Following the heated disagreement, Bautista allegedly stabbed his roommate in the chest. The incident happened on September 8.

Though the incident happened in Studio City, according to Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, 36-years-old Bautista has surrendered at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City. The producer has been held in custody, with a bail-review hearing set for later this week. While it isn’t clear if Bautista will post $550,000 bail, he has maintained his innocence and pleaded “Not Guilty” to the charges leveled against him.

His roommate, the one Bautista stabbed, has been identified as 23-year-old Clayton Haymes. The victim claims Andre Salaman Bautista stabbed him with a kitchen knife at their home. He alleges there was no physical confrontation, but just a little light-hearted fun that he and his buddies aimed at Bautista, who in turn got really upset and attacked. Incidentally, Bautista is Hayme’s landlord, reported Hollywood Reporter.

Apparently, the argument started when Bautista was bragging that he would win five Oscars someday. At this point, the roommate, along with a few other friends, were more than amused and laughed, mocking Bautista, said Haymes. The victim too, voiced his skepticism, which apparently angered Bautista, who in turn started making threatening gestures with a knife, before stabbing him in one of his lungs.

“When he said ‘five Oscars,’ we all kind of laughed a little bit, and he got really upset. I was terrified for my life. I’m just happy to be alive.”

Bautista denies attacking his friend, but is facing one count of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. He has pleaded “Not Guilty” to both the charges. If convicted, Andre Salaman Bautista could be sentenced to 13 years in prison. The Los Angeles Police Department hasn’t released any further information, other than confirming that an investigation is underway.

Born in Colombia, Andre Salaman Bautista, or Andre Bauth, recently won the Daytime Emmy for The Bay: The Series, in the Outstanding New Approaches Drama Series category, reported MSN. He has also worked on other movies like Haraka and A Place Called Hollywood.

There was already a warrant issued against Bautista, who chose to surrender rather than risk an arrest. Though the victim has miraculously survived, Bautista’s legal fate remains uncertain.
