Salty Watermelon Pepsi Hits Japan This Summer

Need a cool drink to cool off this summer? Why not grab an ice cold Salty Watermelon Pepsi?

Kotaku reports that Pepsi has made it a bit of a tradition in Japan to release a new flavor during the Summer. The company has already released cucumber, azuka bean, strawberry milk, green shiso, and yogurt flavored Pepsi.

IB Times reports that salty watermelon Pepsi may seem like a strange combination but according to WebProNews, people in Japan typically put salt on their watermelon to help “bring out the flavor.”

Japanese Snack Review writes:

“This isn’t a bad flavor choice, actually, as watermelon and summer are inextricably linked and the Japanese do salt their melons. If you have sub-par watermelon which isn’t sweet enough, salting it a little will make it taste better…. The same goes for apples. However, don’t salt your fruit like you do your fries or you’ll be filled with regret.”

What do you think of the new flavor? Would you try salty watermelon Pepsi? The new soda goes on sale in Japan on July 24.
