Bay City Rollers Are Reuniting, 70’s Band Announces Three-Man Reunion And A Possible New Album

If you were growing up in the 70’s, then you are sure to remember the Bay City Rollers. Even if you were not a fan of the band, you certainly couldn’t miss them with their tartan outfits and Scottish accents that they were so well known for. That was almost 40 years ago, and they have now decided to get back together, as reported by BBC News. However, this reunion will only have three original members instead of the usual five.

Les McKeown, 59, Stuart Wood, 58, and oldest member Alan Longmuir, 67, made the official announcement at a Glasgow press conference. They were all in good humor as they laughed about the past and looking towards their future time with their fans that have “kept the faith over the years.” Why have the three guys decided to get back together after all these years? McKeown said it was for the fans, and getting paid as well.

“I think the three of us have made dreams come true and the fans are the reason that we’re doing it – that and the money of course.”

Their former guitarist, 61-year-old Eric Faulkner, may possibly join the band later on, but that is not written in stone at this point. According to the Daily Mail, the fifth Bay City Roller, Derek Longmuir, has refused the offer to get back with the rest of the boys. Derek and his brother Alan formed the band in the late 60’s and later added the other musicians.

Young teenage girls went crazy for the Rollers. They wore tartan to their concerts as they screamed and waved tartan banners to get their attention. They were the 70’s version of One Direction back in the day. In fact, the threesome mentioned that they were “even bigger than Once Direction” back then.

After selling around 120 million records, the band started faltering. Money squabbles had Les McKeown quitting in 1978, which left hurt feelings between the men all of these years. However, the lead singer says that they have now put that all behind them.

“Stuff happened but we’ve put it in the past and will leave it in the past, and we’ve had time to talk to each other as grownups. There were important emotional scars but it’s not something that you can’t get over, especially when there’s huge amounts of money involved!”

Some of their biggest hits include “Saturday Night” and “Bye Bye Baby.” Longtime fans of the Bay City Rollers will be happy to know that they may be working on a brand new single, as well as a new album. Rollermania may be revived once again!

They will kick off their comeback with a gig at Glasgow’s Barrowland Ballroom on December 20.
