Adam Jones Signs $85.5 Million Contract Extension With Baltimore Orioles

26-year-old center fielder Adam Jones will be a Baltimore Oriole through the 2018 season after he agreed on Sunday to a six-year, $85.5 million contract extension.

After the contract was announced Jones said he is happy to make Baltimore his home for a while longer:

“I fit here in this city. I fit here on this team. I fit in Camden Yards. I don’t see myself wearing another white uniform that doesn’t have Orioles across the chest. I’m not from Baltimore. This is now my town.”

The contract extension comes on the heels of an 18 games hitting streak alongside the teams lead for home runs and RBIs.

Among the center fielders new contract is a $2 million signing bonus, $8.5 million in 2013, $13 million each in 2014 and 2015 and $16 million apiece in 2016 and 2017. Finishing out his contract is a $17 million payment in 2018. Also included in the contract is a “no-trade” provision.

The extension comes after Jones and the Baltimore Orioles agrees to a one-year, $6.15 million contract in February which kept both sides out of arbitration as they worked towards a more permanent contract.

Jones revealed on Sunday that he had made his mind to stay in Baltimore a long time ago while adding:

“Now, I don’t have to worry about trade deadline, free agency. I don’t have to worry about any of that, just worry about being a part of the best team in baseball.”

Do you think having Adam Jones in the Orioles roster through the 2018 season was a smart move for the Baltimore Orioles front line to make?
