The Weeknd Joins Mariah Carey And The Beatles In Amazing Music Chart Feat

The Weeknd is the hottest thing in the music industry now. Billboard describes his latest achievement.

“The Weeknd’s ‘Can’t Feel My Face’ rebounds 2-1 for a third nonconsecutive week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. It replaces Justin Bieber’s ‘What Do You Mean?,’ which falls 1-3 after debuting atop the chart last week.”

Billboard notes that The Weeknd’s other single, “The Hills,” rises from No. 3 to No. 2 — this makes him the first act to rank at Nos. 1 and 2 simultaneously, as a lead act on both songs, since 2009. The Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling” and “Boom Boom Pow” held the pole positions during the Summer of 2009. In 2005, Mariah Carey was on the comeback trail and held the pole positions with “We Belong Together” at No. 1 and “Shake It Off” at No. 2.

The Beatles were the first act to land both the No. 1 and No. 2 songs during the same week. According to Ultimate Classic Rock, the Beatles actually held the top five positions on Billboard’s Hot 100 on April 4, 1964: “Can’t Buy Me Love” was at No. 1, while “Twist and Shout” and “She Loves You” were No. 2 and No. 3. “I Want to Hold Your Hand” was at No. 4 and “Please Please Me” was at No. 5.

The Weeknd recently talked with GQ about why he once said he was too boring to interview.

“I get naturally uncomfortable when I’m put under a magnifying glass. I think when I said I had nothing interesting to talk about, it was just instinct, I was dodging the question. I think I’m a little less awkward now.”

He also had a very interesting response when responding to people who say his music is too creepy for them.

“It makes me feel good. How much is too much? Some people love PG horror movies and some people love R rated horror movies.”

The Weeknd also talks about working with mega-producer Max Martin in the studio. He said working with Martin was a learning experience. Martin’s studio used to be Marilyn Monroe’s old house. The Weeknd came up with the concept for a song called “In the Night” in Monroe’s bedroom.

Although news is good for The Weeknd on the Billboard Hot 100, it is bad for some other major artists. Janet Jackson’s highly-hyped single “Unbreakable” has failed to chart this week, making it her second disappointing single in a row (“No Sleeep” peaked at No. 67). Taylor Swift’s “Wildest Dreams” only moves up from No. 15 to No. 12 — a great move for any other artist, but not for Swift. Next week, look for The Weeknd to dominate the Billboard Hot 100 once again.
