Carly Fiorina’s Political Gaffe: Called Fellow Politician’s Hair ‘So Yesterday’ [Video]

As Donald Trump and Carly Fiorina deal with the fallout from Trump’s now infamous “face” comments, we would be remiss if we didn’t take a look back at the time in 2010 Carly Fiorina made her own comments about the appearance of a fellow female politician.

During the 2010 California Senate election, Carly Fiorina was caught unaware talking about the hair of then Democratic incumbent Barbara Boxer, whom Fiorina was running against for a Senate seat.

At the time, Fiorina was preparing for an interview with a CNN affiliate and wasn’t aware that the pre-interview preparations were being recorded. Below, Carly Fiorina can be seen discussing Boxer’s hair with some of her aides.

Fiorina can be heard saying “(she) said what everyone says, ‘God what is that hair?’ So yesterday!'”

Later, Fiorina discussed the gaffe during an interview with Fox News, where she said that discussion of a female politician’s looks “goes with the territory.”

In the interview with Fox News‘ Greta Van Susteren, Fiorina says “I was quoting a friend of mine. My goodness, my hair has been talked about by a million people. It sort of goes with the territory.”

Boxer ultimately won the 2010 Senate race against Carly Fiorina.

There’s no telling whether five years later, Carly Fiorina still feels that the looks discussion is part of politicals, but if you ask Donald Trump, it doesn’t matter. Since making the comments to Rolling Stone magazine about Fiorina, Trump has said that he wasn’t referring to Fiorina’s physical appearance, but rather to her persona and her track record as the CEO of Hewlett Packard.

In the Rolling Stone interview released Wednesday, Trump was quoted as saying “Look at that face! Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president. I mean, she’s a woman, and I’m not s’posedta say bad things, but really, folks, come on. Are we serious?”

When he was later asked about the face comment, Donald Trump told Fox News:

“I’m talking about persona, I’m not talking about look.”

Trump added that he was speaking “in a jocular manner.”

What do you think about Carly Fiorina’s 2010 comments about Barbara Boxer’s hair? Do you think Donald Trump’s current comments about Carly Fiorina bother the former HP executive?
