Will ‘Batman V Superman’ Feature Robin In Ben Affleck’s Stand Alone Sequels? Plus Tom Hardy Open To Returning As Bane

Things are really starting to pick up for the DC Comics Universe. In addition to to the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice film, Ben Affleck has signed on to play the caped crusader in a future solo movie. Will that film include Batman’s famous sidekick Robin?

Although nothing official has been announced, it’s been a long time since Robin has fought alongside Batman on the big screen. In fact, according to Venture Capital Post, the last time Robin appeared next to Batman was back in the 1997 film Batman & Robin. While this doesn’t necessarily mean Robin will be included in the next Batman movie, it does open the possibility of some sort of cameo for the iconic hero.

At the same time, Robin has popped up in the trailer of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, so his existence has at least been acknowledged in the new DC Comics Universe. Additionally, according to Movie Pilot, Zack Snyder released an image of Richard Grayson’s tombstone, which further indicates that Robin might be a part of a future Batman flick.

While some have speculated that the tombstone simply means that Robin is dead in the current timeline, it is possible that it is a reference to when Batman and Robin fabricated the death of Nightwing in the comics. Either way, it is a good sign that Snyder has taken the time to include Robin in the storyline.

Furthermore, if Robin is featured in the next Batman movie, then it will open up the door for a number of new characters to be introduced. In particular, Talia Al Ghul, Red Hood, Black Mask, and Deathstroke are all possibilities.

Meanwhile, another character that could make an appearance in the new Batman film is Bane, last played by Tom Hardy. Although nothing is certain at this point, Hardy has expressed an interest in reprising his role in future films.

“Of course, I’m Bane,” Hardy told Entertainment Weekly after being asked if would play the character again.

In regards to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Hardy was less forgiving about his feelings for Batman and Superman.

“I would like to hold the pair of them under the water until the bubbles stop,” he stated.

While we wait for more details to be released on the next Batman solo project, fans can get their fill of the Caped Crusader when Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters in March of 2016.
