Dex Osama Killed: Detroit Rapper’s Lyrics Appeared To Predict His Violent Death

Dex Osama was killed this weekend in a shooting outside a strip club, a killing that the Detroit rapper himself seemed to predict in his own lyrics.

The 29-year-old rapper was confirmed dead this weekend after an argument in a strip club spilled outside, where shots were fired. Shots were fired and two people were struck, with Dex Osama killed and another man wounded in the hand.

Osama was shot once in the chest and once in the stomach, Detroit Police Sgt. Michael Woody told the Detroit Free Press.

“The argument was moved outside, at which point a suspect drew his weapon, shooting the victim who fled,” Woody said. “He ultimately collapsed at a nearby gas station. He was conveyed to hospital where he was [pronounced] dead on arrival.”

Dex Osama appeared to be an artist on the rise. After making a name for himself in the Detroit rap scene, Osama caught the eye of Philadelphia rapper Meek Mill.

Osama had recently been co-signed by co-signed by Meek Mill and DeJ Loaf, InTouch Weekly noted. This weekend Meek Mill paid tribute to the slain rapper in a touching Instagram post.

“Had a lot of talks with you about getting out them streets and chasing ya dreams! I really believed in you and seen you putting on for Detroit! RIP @dex_osama for all my fellow young kings coming up tryna make it out, take ya time and think about where you want ya life to go! MAY GOD BLESS HIS SOUL! Never let them streets shatter ya dreams!!! [sic]”

But it was a violent death that Dex Osama himself seemed to predict. His lyrics often touched on violence in Detroit and Dex Osama’s fear that he would die.

In “Death On Me,” he rapped:

My mama said I got death on me
The reason why I got this vest on me
These n****s want me then come get me
I ain’t hiding n***a I’m in the city

Dex Osama often rapped about gun violence, including the song “Crime In The D” in which he rapped:

A young n***a a wild n***a about that gun play
A trigger happy n***a kill a n***a on a Sunday
I feel like Pac I should go hit ’em up
Tell that ambulance don’t pick ’em up

Osama is not the only Meek Mill affiliate to meet a violent end. In 2013, 18-year-old rapper Lil Snupe was killed during a dispute over a video game. The teen, who himself had recently signed with Meek Mill, rapped about violence and predicted he would be killed.

The person who shot and killed Dex Osama fled the scene afterward. Police have not yet identified a suspect.
