Susan Sarandon Walks Into Burning Man Chapel With Friend’s Ashes In Wedding Gown Surrounded By LSD-Tripping Revelers

Susan Sarandon honored her deceased friend Timothy Leary, also known as the Godfather of LSD, by sprinkling his ashes in a makeshift church at the Burning Man festival. Sarandon says Leary would have loved the “chaos” and the line of revelers “honoring him with LSD.”

The Daily Mail reports that actress Susan Sarandon knew that the Burning Man festival would be the perfect place to lay her friend, Timothy Leary, to rest after holding on to his ashes since his cremation in 1996. Sarandon brought the ashes to the debauchery-fueled festival to honor her “dear friend,” who she noted would have loved the “chaos” of it all.

Sarandon entered a makeshift chapel, which was built specifically for the ceremony, at Burning Man wearing a wedding gown as she carried the ashes. The actress was followed by a stream of festival-goers who had taken the psychedelic drug LSD. Sarandon notes that the people were “honoring [Leary] with LSD” and that he would have been proud.

“I think he’d be so happy. I think he would have loved the chaos. He would have loved it. And all these people honoring him with LSD.”

Leary is often referred to as the “Godfather of LSD” for creating what Sarandon noted in an interview with the Daily Beast as “nice and pure.” In fact, Sarandon has been open about her love for “natural” drugs such as marijuana, mushrooms, and Leary’s “pure” acid.

“I’m not new to the idea of mushrooms. I don’t really like chemical things, really. Timothy Leary was a friend of mine, so that acid was nice and pure, but I’m not really looking for chemicals, and I don’t like to feel speedy. But I’ve done Ayahuasca and I’ve done mushrooms and things like that.”

Susan camped with a group of artists at the Burning Man festival and worked in conjunction with photographer Michael Garlington to create the makeshift chapel that would be the farewell place to Timothy Leary. Sarandon performed the ceremony this afternoon, the day after the Burning Man structure was burned to the ground.

Now revelers are packing up their belongings and heading out after the week-long festival in the typically remote Nevada desert.
