‘The Boy With The Giant Hands’: TLC Documentary Features Mohammad Kaleem, An Indian Boy Who Many Call ‘Devil Child’

The Boy with the Giant Hands is a new TLC special that airs tonight on the cable channel.

The Boy with the Giant Hands follows the sad story of Mohammad Kaleem, an 8-year-old Indian boy who was born with enormous hands. Since his birth, his hands have continued to grow, causing the small child great pain. Kaleem’s wrists are three times the size of a normal person, but the larger wrists are needed in order to hold his heavy hands. Doctors say his hands measure 13 inches long and weigh more than five pounds, according to the Daily Mail.

It was difficult to find an exact diagnosis of the cause of the mysterious growth. Finally, doctors narrowed it down to a treatable condition known as macrodactyly. In tonight’s insightful documentary, doctors will perform a radical surgery that is sure to give Mohammad Kaleem some relief. TLC viewers will hear the story told through interviews with Kaleem’s family members. They will also get to see the before and after of the surgery.

The Boy with the Giant Hands documentary will also examine how the local school has banned the child from attending because the children are all afraid of him. Others in the small village believe that the child is from the devil, or that his mother could have been plagued by demons during her pregnancy. In an exclusive interview with Metro, Kaleem states the following.

“I do not go to school because the teacher says other kids are scared of my hands. Many of them used to bully me for my deformity. They would say “let’s beat up the kid with the large hands.(0 Some of them have actually beaten me and would go after me often.”

Kaleem has a hard time performing simple child tasks, including taking a bath, drinking from a cup, combing his hair, or brushing his teeth. Doctors have been left scratching their heads as they try to figure out exactly what’s wrong with him — and what could be causing his hand growth. His mother, Helena, is eager to find some help for her child and says that he is ostracized by classmates because they are afraid. According to his parents, who have little money, they are desperate to find a procedure that might help save help their son live a normal life. Doctors say that his expanding hands could eventually affect his cardiovascular system, which could end his life.

Sit down tonight and watch this compelling documentary on TLC at 9 p.m. central. The Boy with the Giant Hands comes on just after another TLC documentary featuring the case of Rishabh Ghimire in Eight-Limbed Baby.
