Celine Dion Returns To Las Vegas Stage Amid Husband Rene Angelil’s Cancer Battle
Celine Dion has returned to the stage, following a year-long hiatus while she cared for her ailing husband Rene Angelil.
The “My Heart Will Go On” singer took the stage Thrusday night at The Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas after being gone from her residency for more than a year, according to Us Weekly.
Prior to the show, Celine Dion opened up about her family’s struggle and how they are dealing with her husband’s cancer battle. Dion married her longtime manager in 1994, and together they had three chidlren – Rene-Charles, 14, and twins Nelson and Eddy, 4.
“I’m trying really hard to show my children that sickness and things happen in life. You cannot be crying and be depressed and consistently talk about, ‘Oh my God,'” Dion, 47, told reporters during a press conference.
“Rene Charles is going to be 15 years old soon. He’s a wonderful young man. He’s entered his teenage years and sometimes we can go really crazy, for some teenagers, but so far so good,” she continued. “I have tremendous respect for my oldest, Rene Charles, because he’s showing strength to see his dad this way because he’s been his anchor. When he was younger he knew his dad was older but they bonded a lot. I’m sure it’s hard for him.
“Unfortunately there’s a lot of people struggling with battles,” the “All Coming Back to Me” singer continued. “When you have family around I think it helps tremendously.”
Celine decided to take a hiatus from her Las Vegas residency in August 2014 so that she could properly care for Angelil, who said he hopes to die in her arms. While speaking at the press conference, she made a reference to her husband, noting that even though he wasn’t able to be their in person, he was watching from their home.
“My love, we love you. Lots of strength tonight,” she said while looking straight into the cameras. “Promise me something. Just enjoy. Just enjoy. Just let it go. We love you.”
“He doesn’t stop amazing me. I’m being heard through my interviews, through my songs,” she added. “This is his time to be heard. This is his way. It’s going to be his way and it’s going to be the way he wants it to be.”
Celine Dion currently has 40 shows scheduled between now and January 2016. According to Relaxnews, reported via MSN, her new studio albums is scheduled to be released in the United States on November 5.
