Fox News, Donald Trump Make Peace After ‘Disturbing’ Comments

Fox News, or at least Roger Ailes (pictured above), has buried the hatchet with Donald Trump after the real estate mogul made insulting tweets about anchor Megyn Kelly, at one point implying she was a “bimbo.” He signaled the quarrel was over and praised both Kelly and the CEO, but some wonder if the truce will last.

On Monday night, Donald Trump took to Twitter to rip into Megyn Kelly – the Fox News anchor who pressed the presidential contender about his comments on women in the news channel’s Republican primary debate.

According to Politico, Roger Ailes, CEO and chairman of Fox News, waded into the conflict to defend his star anchor, calling presidential candidate’s Twitter offensive “unprovoked,” “unacceptable” and “disturbing.” In a statement, he said that the news channel’s journalists would not be bullied for doing their jobs, and Kelly’s questions in the debate were “tough but fair.”

Trump fired back saying he “totally disagreed,” according to NBC News.

“I totally disagree with the Fox statement. I do not think Megyn Kelly is a quality journalist. I think her questioning of me, despite all of the polls saying I won the debate, was very unfair. Hopefully in the future I will be proven wrong and she will be able to elevate her standards to a level of professionalism that a network such as Fox deserves.”

On Wednesday, the tune the changed dramatically.

Speaking to radio show host Laura Ingraham, Donald Trump said that he had “no problem” with Ailes or Kelly.

“Roger Ailes is great. He’s a special guy and a good friend of mine. We just spoke two minutes ago. I mean, Roger Ailes is a great guy and no, I have no problem.”

He later added that he watched Megyn Kelly’s show on Tuesday night and she was very nice.

“Actually I watched her show last night; she was very nice and I appreciated it.”

Trump also says there is no “death struggle” between him and Fox News, and that it really “not a big deal.”

The interview seemed to signal a peace, for now. Still, the true test will come the next time Fox News presses Trump, if that happens at all.
