Ex-Yahoo CEO Scott Thompson Diagnosed With Cancer

Former Yahoo CEO Scott Thompson was forced to step down from the tech firm this week after it was revealed he had lied on his resume, claiming a computer science bachelor’s degree he doesn’t actually possess. Now sources close to the former CEO have revealed that he is about to undergo treatment for cancer.

According to reports made by sources at the Wall Street Journal Scott Thompson is suffering from thyroid cancer, a diagnosis he had already told board members and colleagues about.

While it was expected that Scott Thompson would step down from his top position at Yahoo following the resume scandal, sources say it was ultimately his battle with cancer that forced his hand.

Thompson reportedly told one colleague that he did not want to publicly discuss his battle with cancer and at this time he can not be reached for details.

With Thompson out at Yahoo his interim replacement is senior Yahoo executive Ross Levinsohn.

Yahoo in the meantime is still dealing with the fallout of the Scott Thompson resume snafu as the company is attempting to reach a settlement with shareholder Daniel Loeb of Third Point, the very same man who discovered the resume lie and who wants several Yahoo board members replaced with his own choices for control.

While we can’t condone Scott Thompson’s resume lies and his attempt to blame others for his blatantly false claims, we still wish him the best during a tough period in his life, despite his caught lie Thompson has had success as a CEO, hopefully he will have further success in his fight against thyroid cancer.
