Ronda Rousey Wants To Play Captain Marvel In 2018 Movie

UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey is reportedly interested in taking her acting career to the next level, admitting online that she would love to star as Captain Marvel when the character finally makes her way to the big screen.

Rousey addressed the subject during a Reddit AMA, according to Moviepilot. When asked by one Reddit user if there were any superheroes that she’d be interested in playing, Rousey jumped at the chance to single out one character in particular.

“A lot of the good ones have been taken,” Rousey said, “but I’d like to vie for Miss Marvel!”

Miss Marvel is the original name for a character now known as Captain Marvel, as Bloody Elbow reports. The character can fly as well as absorb and project energy, and she is possessed of super-strength, seemingly making Rousey an excellent fit. Captain Marvel is set to be the focus of her own film in 2018, though the titular role has yet to be filled. Fans have speculated that the eponymous movie will mark Captain Marvel’s entrance into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, though it is entirely possible that the character could appear in another origin story prior to its release.

While Rousey’s acting career is in its infancy, she was recently recognized as one of the highest-paid women in her field. As the Inquisitr previously reported, Rousey brought in over $6 million in fight winnings and endorsements, enough to find herself in the No. 8 slot on the Forbes list of the highest paid women in sports. Rousey is also widely acknowledged as one of the most popular UFC fighters.

Fans had previously wondered about the possibility of Rousey making her way to the screen as another superhero, Wonder Woman, who will be making her first appearance in next year’s highly anticipated Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice. Rousey was never given the opportunity to audition for the role, but when Gal Gadot was cast, the MMA star made several eyebrow-raising comments that piqued fans’ interest. Rousey has also recently openly acknowledged her geekier side, asserting that she is an avid fan of Game of Thrones and Pokémon.

Though the role of Captain Marvel remains up for grabs by all indications, Marvel studios has been rumored to be considering Emily Blunt, among others, for the part. In Ronda Rousey, the studio may have a choice with all the right tools to bring Captain Marvel to the big screen.
