Drake Versus Meek Mill: The Gift That Keeps On Giving

Over the past couple of days the rap war between Drake and Meek Mill has taken another couple of twists and turns. Unless you have been marooned on a desert island or living under a rock you will be aware that Meek Mill fired the opening rounds in what is shaping up to be an epic battle when he publicly accused Drake of not writing his own raps. Since then the hip-hop world has been taking sides as a series of skirmishes escalated the war.

Since the opening salvos were fired, Meek and Drake have traded public insults on a number of occasions. Meek’s girlfriend Nicki Minaj has been at the center of a number of the insults traded. Drake kept his powder dry for a few days before letting Meek have both barrels when he released not one, but two songs, “Charged Up” and “Back to Back.”

The New York Times reports that on Monday Drake put Meek center stage and in the firing line once again when he performed his diss songs on the final night of OvoFest in Toronto. As Drake performed the songs the huge onstage screen displayed an endless series of memes insulting Meek. Then Drake dealt another body blow by introducing big guns like Kanye West as his special guests.

Billboard reports that the war between Drake and Meek has helped to raise the profile of both artists and propelled their diss songs onto the charts. Both of Drake’s tracks made it onto the Billboard & Twitter Top Tracks chart whilst Meek’s track “Wanna Know” did likewise. The spat has had over four million Twitter mentions, while the artists have gained almost 1.5 million new twitter followers between them.

Following Drake’s roasting, Meek shared an Instagram picture of himself using a machine to count money, presumably to show that he wasn’t bothered by Drakes latest attack.

However the source report that Meek took to the stage during Nicki Minaj’s Pinkprint Tour show in Charlotte NC last night to take another shot at Drake.

While Drake and Meek may be reeling from blow after blow as their war rumbles on it seems that corporate America has sniffed an opportunity to cash in on the fight.

Texas based Whataburger ran a cheeky Twitter advertisment reading “Meek Mill take it from us – if you gonna serve beef serve it high quality.”

They later followed it up with a second ad that read “Drake at Whataburger: We Need More Beef – Meek Mill: Please no more Mr Drake I’m full.”

It seems that this beef has a ways to go, and it’s a gift that social media will continue to enjoy.
