Kirstie Alley’s Weight Gain gets Oprah’s Attention

Kirstie Alley’s recent weight gain has gotten the attention of none other than Oprah.

The bulbous Kristie Alley will appear on Oprah on April 30th to talk about her generous proportions and what keeps her motivated to eat so unhealthily.

Kirstie Alley signed a three-year contract as the spokesperson for Jenny Craig in 2005. After successfully losing about 75lbs, she famously appeared on Oprah Winfrey’s show in a skimpy bikini. In the short time since her contract with Jenny Craig ended, Alley has gained back the weight. In 2008, Kirstie Alley was replaced by Valerie Bertinelli as the spokesperson for Jenny Craig.

I think Kirstie is a beautiful woman and it's unfortunate that she 'fell off the wagon'. Losing weight and keeping it off is not easy for those of us who, I feel, are addicted to food. It's not as simple as eating less and moving more, if it were, there wouldn't be over weight people.
Kirstie will hopefully get some help and finally lose the weight and keep it off. I had lap band surgery last year and have since lost over 40lbs. If I wouldn't have had the surgery I would have probably GAINED 40 or more pounds.
Good luck Kirstie, I wish you all the best. Just know that you are in no way alone in your struggle

  2. So what! She hasn't done anything that the rest of us haven't done ourselves. I'm having to lose the same 100 pounds all over again myself. I don't know why society has to be so cruel when they do not understand what it is like to have food as your comfort station. No one wants to be fat…and neither does Kirstie. You can do it Kirstie and so can the rest of it. The damage is done, just as my own damage is done and now we have to fix it AGAIN.
I know it is hard but I'm counting on hearing your new way so I can follow it as well.
Good luck Kirstie. We all will be right out there with you. We can all get healthy and slim….AGAIN!

Quite frankly it may be that the Jenny Craig plan is an unrealistic. So maybe the blame should be put on the plan and not so much on Kirstie. We should focus on a lifetime commitment to understanding food, not dieting. I myself have tried thousands of “diets” until I met my current nutritionist. I now understand more about how my body reacts to foods and what I can and can not eat. I have removed white flour, white potatoes and white sugar from my diet and I pretty much eat protein, veggies, fruit and stone ground whole wheat products and I lost 56 pounds doing it. I feel wonderful. I do know that once I cheat on a sugary product my blood sugar levels become irratic and I continue to crave more. So I just need to regroup and stay as much away from sugary sweets as I can. It's okay to cheat when there's a special occasion, but you need to get back on track again. Unfortunately, my relationship with food is a life long relationship that can't be ignored.

  4. a lot of different in her bodies…so much changess

  5. Hang in there, Kirstie–we love you–large or small! You don't need to apologize to anyone for the weight gain. Just be happy and healthy!

  6. Get off your generous ass and get fit. No diet will save you, just get active and stop making excuses for yourself.
Comfort food is just another excuse, get real, you can eat as much as you want if you went for a run or swim or walk or anything like that.

  7. Snort drugs, blow the money. You're bound to lose weight.

  8. Unbelievable. These weak, pathetic stars have all of the most powerful negative forces eliminated when it comes to weight loss yet they keep getting fat. Having to work 80hrs/week and still being broke, not being able to afford healthy foods, can't afford gym or equipment, can't afford a trainer or a cook, sometimes just won't be able to cook dinner…etc. It's so ridiculous. You give me 50 million in my bank account and you'll see one healthy and happy dude I can tell you that!

  9. For heaven's sake, leave this poor woman alone. Who cares if she's overweight?

Hey Jillian, after a lifetime (55 yrs) of struggling, gaining, losing, I finally hit on the same thing … glycemic index. For me (and prob a lot of others out there) it really just comes down to WHAT you eat. When I stopped eating refined foods, my cravings stopped, my stomach stopped growling, I stopped feeling tired. So I finally stopped dieting, stopped starving, stopped feeling guilty and struggling. I had one focus, eat high on the glycemic index every day, all that I wanted, never hungry. Also made a goal to move my body some every day. Often just a walk. Started with a 10 min walk around the block and did that for weeks after 40 lb loss, got a personal trainer. Lost 75 lbs slowly over 2 1/2 yrs. If I eat the sugar/white flour, my cravings come right back. It's not that I don't ever eat them, but I'm very very careful with them. I try to focus on all the great delicous food I can eat any time i'm hungry. People can't live hungry and some foods will never fill you up. I know I never have to go hungry again. It's the first time in my life that i didn't immediately gain wt back, but i don't take anything for granted. I eat my whole wheat tortillas, my fruit and veggies and lean meats and life is finally good. It really is that simple (at least for some of us) but it's so simple no one believes, also it's not fast, it's a life change, but you know every day you're nourishing yourself, healing yourself. Congrats on your wt loss and thanks for your post!

  11. OK, I really think that Kirstie is beautiful. What she needs to understand is that if she became a regular person like you and I she would be accepted 100%, unlike the unrealistic Hollywood Crowd. Its really sad this day and age that Hollywood thinks that only a size 0 is acceptable, considering 65% of American's are over weight. So here is my advise, Kirstie, get a real job and join the real world and you wouldn't have anymore doubts about yourself!!! Come and Bat for our team, Team Hollywood are LOSERS!!!!

  12. Even though she left as spokesperson for Jenny Craig, why didn't she stay with the program?
