‘Game Of Thrones’ Ending After Season 8? HBO Chief Hopes Popular Series Doesn’t Run Out Of Material

Game of Thrones may be ending soon and perhaps the Season 8 might be its last.

Expressing his concerns about the popular sitcom, HBO programming president Michael Lombardo said the Emmy-award winning fantasy series Game of Thrones might terminate after Season 8, reported NBC. Speaking openly at the Television Critics Association summer press tour Lombardo said talked about the show.

“Obviously we’re shooting season six now, hopefully discussing seven. The final word on when to end the series will rest with show-runners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. I think their feeling is we’re looking at two more seasons after six. I’m hoping they’ll change their minds, but that’s what we’re looking at right now.”

Game of Thrones is an immensely popular series on HBO that has piqued the interest of many viewers. The show is actively followed and has multiple online platforms for fans to discuss. Season 5 of the series ended in June. Owing to its immense popularity, the show has been nominated for eight Primetime Emmy awards, including best drama series, reported MSN

However, Game of Thrones is based on the much read George R.R. Martin’s books and the series has now caught-up with the editions. Interestingly, it was commonly assumed that Game of Thrones would be ending after Season 7; however, fans were delighted to hear that season eight was in the pipeline.

Will Game of Thrones be ending after Season 8? While logic dictates so, the series might or might not end soon. Now that the executive producers have exhausted the material on which Game of Thrones was based, could they follow in the footsteps of a few Hollywood movies and decide to make a prequel? When asked such a question, Lombardo deftly passed the buck to Benioff and Weiss.

“I would be open to anything that Dan and David wanted to do about ‘Game of Thrones’ or almost any subject matter. It would really depend fully for us on what they wanted to do. I think you’re right, there’s enormous storytelling to be mined in a prequel. But you’d have to have George and Dan and David decide they want to tackle that. At this point, all the focus is on figuring out the next few years of this show. We haven’t had any conversations about that at this point.”

If Game of Thrones does continue after Season 8 and the producers do decide to explore the ‘prequel’ aspect, fans could hopefully see the resurrection of their hugely favourite character Jon Snow, just like the X-Men got their Professor Charles Xavier or Prof. X
